He said they had conversations and specific instructions for the families during the last bye week, which is interesting, but not surprising.
Pure Nick Saban.

On one hand I do not like this. On the other hand I’ve heard that 75% of the team had already had it, so maybe the risk is not as high.

Did the team have a problem after thanksgiving? Didn’t they go home then too?
Don’t think they went home for thanksgiving, but I could be wrong. Pretty sure the last time they could go home was the bye. Think we had a couple pop positive, but no big outbreak

No, they don't go into a bio dome.. but When you are around the same people everyday.. that creates a bubble. Even with other college kids, even within your town. There is a reason there is out breaks in certain areas.. and others have built a community bubble per say. Here in mississippi we have mask mandates for only certain counties.. there is a reason. Its not a NFL or NBA bubble.. but its a exposure bubble and heard immunity bubble. We canceled a game in north MS due to the county having such outbreaks, but we played one 30 miles away against another team with less out breaks in the community. 2 months later now that County with that had the most outbreaks is low on the list now for cases.. they built a county heard bubble.

Love Saban, but don’t like this decision.

Great opportunity for one of those “team leaders came together and decided for everyone to stay on campus for Christmas” decisions.

i wonder how many will decide to stay on campus rather than go home?

These guys sacrifice a lot. Mandating they miss the holidays completely doesn’t seem right to me. Hopefully it works out.
Yep.
Especially this year with all the struggles and challenges, it isn't right to ask them to miss Christmas.
Hopefully it works out ok, but even if it doesn't it's the right thing to do.

There are some things more important than football. Kids should not be separated from their families during this time of year. It's mentally taxing. Trust me...I know.

If Bama has several players miss playoff games do to covid or contact tracing, Saban will have no one to blame but himself.
Alabama was just getting back in the clear of covid after having problems for several weeks, likely as a result of letting the players go home on the bye week. Trey Sanders would still be playing had the players not gone home that week.

These guys are kids, not robots. I understand Saban’s decision, because being stuck in Tuscaloosa away from family on Christmas could be a morale killer.

Agree with you guys - I think it's a risk but I think it's a risk that you have to take.

This makes me very nervous.
If I were Saban I’d tell the playoff committee tough shite. OSU was able to avoid 4-5 games that everyone else played and the injuries to key players that would surely come with that and waltz into the playoffs. Spare me with the BS about Fields hurting his poor wittle thumb. We might be at full strength if not for playing our full slate. We’ve lost a top 10 pick at WR and arguably the best Center in the nation.
If we have COVID cases, tough shite. We deserve the OSU treatment and should postpone until everyone is ready to play. If Clemson experiences the same issues then Dabo should absolutely say the same thing. I’d argue the same for ND as well. The 3 of us toughed it out and experienced injuries to key players whereas OSU essentially got a cake walk.

Good for CNS. Folks want the kids to follow routine when it's convenient for them, until it's not.

Saban has earned the right to be unquestioned.

Saban probably gave them his antibodies and made them take the vaccine...lol

Gotta defer to Saban on stuff like this.
Might cost us against ND but I assume he thinks the team needs a break. Might help us against Clemson if we survive ND.
Saban might also just think it’s the decent thing to do too. He was a kid once who went off to school and he’s got kids himself.
Definitely hurts the Grinch narrative.

Saban himself recently said,

Exactly and finishing the right way means a hell of a lot more to them than it does to us (or at least that should be the case.)
Gotta trust them to make the right decisions
