5 had a bad game. We need to throw the dam playbook out on the first 10 scripted plays when they are stacking the effing box. Nothing is creative in those first two drives. Puts the D in a bad spot.

Getting off to terrible starts will not produce a good result against good teams

Good: run game took over late, OL rebounded after a rough start. Keelon looked like that dude in the second half.
Bad: anyone that tried to cover 0. Sabb got burned badly a couple times. Lots of wide open receivers, blitz had trouble getting home.
Ugly: the lightning rules need to be looked at, there was no reason to delay that game for as long as it was

Good: One, the run game. Two, Russell. I know FSU is bad, bad defensively but I still think that was an outstanding offensive performance.
Bad: Defense. Hopefully just a clunker and a bad game.
Ugly: They have got figure out what is causing the slow starts. Look so sloppy and unprepared to start games. Will cost you against better teams.

Good
1. KR improved after a choppy start where he was often not throwing a great ball for YAC or late to the open receiver. When he has confidence in what he's seeing out there, he throws dimes as good as the best we've had here.
2. Run game also started choppy - the two are related in my opinion - but blocking schemes were adjusted mid-game and started gashing FSU nearly at will.
Bad
1. Talty was perfect on the day and Asparuhov continues to be an all-conference-caliber punter. However, this was probably the worst overall day for the special teams unit this season. The decision to heat up the punter on a 4th and 16 stop at a critical juncture and roughing the punter kept FSU in the ball game when it felt like that stop and a score would have put a bow on it. Additionally, we decided to kick our first returnable kickoff of the season and the coverage unit did not execute and let the returner get to the corner and setup FSU with good drive start position. The squib kick was executed to perfection by the kicker, so that worked out late.

1. Defensive secondary had an awful day at the office. I've said in other topics that the decision to play more man coverage is philosophically correct. I don't think you can be an elite defense without being able to execute cover-1 coverages with 5 and 6-man pressures at times. You'll get cooked doing that all game but at some point a defense has got to be able to trust their guys to cover and get home to short circuit pass patterns and/or plug up the run. However, I'm not sure our secondary is really ready to be a man-heavy defense. In my opinion, Hubbard is the wrong kind of safety for a defense that could put him in isolation a ton and similar for Lee at corner. Brown is an NFL corner, possible first round pick. He's got the stuff to play man or zone with ease. It's going to be a work in progress for Lee who seemed a bit crossed up with his footwork when having to lock on a man. Hopefully this is going to go far towards getting it fixed. We've got a few games coming up where the secondary is going to need much better play to be on the winning side.

The Good
Russell seems to be getting better and better. He came up big in this game.

Weird play selection by Grubb early on. WAAAAAAY too predictable.
Ugly
Secondary got burned way too often. I get it, 0 is an incredible WR and probably a first round NFL pick but holy cow, he made our guys look silly. Wommack needs to figure this out fast because MSU and LSU both have really good WRs too.

Good: fans quit way before this team does. KR’s passing and running. RCW played flawlessly. RBs broke FSU. Defense did get 3 picks. Talty is a weapon.
Bad: our expectations, defense got out classed in the first Q. Slow starts.
Ugly: refs are still bad, FSU qb getting 377 yards.
I knew there was no way we were going to lose to FSU though, no matter how ugly things got unless lightning caused the game to not get finished.

Good - after slow start, Grubbs had 9 straight scoring drives. When we needed to run the ball and drain clock at the end, we did well.
Bad - roughing the punter
Ugly - trying to cover Duce and the “weather” delays.

Russell flipping a switch and trusting his playmakers was so promising, let them make the play. Rushing game came alive with it and hopefully they found something they can build on with the OL.
Devan Thompkins looks worth the money, Terrence Green too. Walked that guard backwards, fell, yet still managed to get the sack.
Wish the coaching staff and GAs would do a better job with getting play calls in, getting the subs in, and make sure the same jersey number isn't on the same unit. These are very so easily correctable details, it's slightly infuriating
Dijon Lee, and most of the secondary, had a rough go. Lost almost every big vs big match up with Duce Robinson(who absolutely is a top 60 pick at worst), Brown did a better job.

The blitz was fine but they were not getting good initial coverage on the slants and other passes that can be thrown quickly.

That's on the player, but also really bad coaching. In that situation there was absolutely no reason to rush the punter like we were down two scores. No excuse.

That might have been my favorite play of the game. I knew we were gonna win after I saw that. You put a guy on roller skates like that and it's not long until they are ready to quit.
It should give Green great confidence in the future. Dude has the ability to take over a drive and throw a grown man into the backfield. LFG.

The good ... We have the depth to play for 60 mins. FSU didn't.
The bad ... See the good. We have teams on our remaining schedule with equal depth.
The ugly ... Offensive play calling is still out of rhythm. Still too many momentum killing WTF plays. This is slightly improving, though.

FSU had a two week planning period and are a decent team.

good - run game, KR12 growth, kickers, ol.
bad - while i think grubb done considerably better, overall. i do think his determination to run the ball up the middle, with very little success at the start, kept us behind the chains. in turn i think it led to stalled drives, which led to trailing on the scoreboard. DB's, plural, more than one was exposed.
ugly - same old inefficient game management from the sideline. same old lack of discipline at critical points by the players.
i would say womack should be in the ugly, however, i remember some of sabans defenses getting lit up and losing games. kw's defense at least did enough to win the game, well, you get the gist.

Gmac, said the last two opponents totally changed their defense for Ala. Said KY had been playing a soft zone, and changed to more attacking, blitzing and same with fsu. They had a week off and totally changed how they played us. GMAC said he has been impresses with how well the Ala offense has adjusted on the fly. He said his senior year seven opponents had an off week before we played them and he can say from experience it is difficult when everything you practiced for gets changed when the game starts.

Good; Ryan Williams seemed to be more engaged when he wasn’t the target on a play. I even saw him attempt some downfield blocking! He must have gotten called out for effort in film study.
Also, I love seeing TE’s involved in the passing game. We have been seeing it for years on Sunday’s but not much on Saturday’s.
Bad: D, obviously, but some teams/schemes/coaches/players just seem to have your number. I think it was just a bad day at the office.
