Ugly - Our first 15 scripted plays on offense.

Good mentions here.
I’ll add that Brooks had some great snags.
RCW also looked crisp in limited action. Caught the ball well; no jumping etc. Kid is dynamite in space.

Terrance Green's sack on Daniels was fkn awesome. That is a big, strong dude.

I thought your post was the best.
I agree 100% that there is absolutely a time and place for when a Defense has to play some tight man coverage, whether it’s bc of a heavy RPO type offense that makes playing zone difficult, 10 personnel sets on 3rd down and medium or less where running 5 yards and turning around at the sticks vs an “off-CB” playing zone makes you won’t to rip your hair out, or if it’s a motion check/trips check, etc…
However, CKW has played about the smallest % of man-coverage than just about any team in the conference since the start of last season, and they have been top5 in the country in pass defense while also producing a lot of turnovers, and have been especially good at not giving up deep balls like they allowed to happen Saturday.
Theres a very interesting breakdown from Brian Kelly during his postgame press conference after the Bama loss last year where he is talking about the complexity and how unique Bama’s 1-high “spot drop” zone coverage is for a QB to read, and what a good job Bama does with it, and how they aren’t the only ones to struggle against it (Nussmeier threw 3 Int’s 2 years ago and 2 more last year).
Hubbard is PERFECT in that 1-high spot-drop bc he’s a “box Safety” that plays the run really well and is primarily an underneath zone defender in coverage.
You are right about him not being a traditional “high-Safety” that can get over the top of vertical balls on either side of the field like an Eddie Jackson type F/S.
Z Brown and D Lee are also a very good CB duo, and to their credit, they WERE in position on the majority of those catches, but were unable to go up and make a play on the ball….on the very 1st TD I thought the QB was just trying to throw it out the back of the endzone.
So, yes they are going to have to play some m2m at times, and I believe they have the talent to do it. I think Z Brown will be one of the top 3 CBs taken in this year’s Draft. But, at the end of the day, if it’s not broken don’t fix it. Bama’s passing D was 4th in the country (160ypg) a year ago, and they have all those guys back.
Last year, strangely enough, CKW decided to play lots of M2M coverage against FSU in that game too. Same issues he had when he tried it vs Pavia and Vandy two years ago, and then he completely shut Pavia down last year by mixing those 1-high “spot drop” looks up (8-10 different ways they play it but it all looks the same to the QB pre-snap).
The other thing about M2M coverage is that it severely weakens your perimeter run support bc those guys have eyes on the WRs instead of setting the edge in the run game, and it can also hurt you vs a mobile QB when he takes off to scramble bc everyone has their back turned to him.
I thought the run defense was stout for the most part (2.6 ypc), and they certainly pressured the QB. I also thought the defense was very physical again and played with a lot of energy and emotion.
Hopefully it’s a good learning experience for Brown and Lee both, and it’s always nice when you can make corrections after a win.

FSU's gameplan was basically throw it up to their 6'6" 230 WR and make a play, and they really executed that well. Daniel's put it on the money more often than not. A WR like that is a mismatch against pretty much any DB. I don't think we face a WR like that the rest of the regular season, thankfully.

They had 4 receivers average over 20 yards/catch and 2 (almost 3) of them average over 30 yards/catch.
0 was a big part of the plan but - other than one screen on 3rd and forever with unforgivable tackling - they were attacking us vertically at will all game. Kormah didn’t run all over us but he didn’t have a bad game either. His effectiveness diminished after the 1st quarter admittedly.

0 whipped our arse all game. It was a lot like the Mike Evans days, we tried multiple DBs on him and nobody had success outside of the 4th down slant Zabien took care of.
Some of the other chunk plays were due to really bad tackling or just the FSU receiver making a play in tight coverage on hospital balls. Daniels didn't do anything special. Deuce is going to be a problem for a lot of teams this year.

The Good: Our offense delivered a stellar 2nd half performanc.. KR accounted for four total touchdowns and over 370 total yards.
The Bad: The defense had a rough start, allowing FS to build an early 21–6 lead through big plays and third-down conversions.
The Ugly: Lightning delays caused long and probably unneeded disruptions, We suffered several uncharacteristic defensive missteps, including blown coverages and unnecessary penalties. Same poor O-line performance and play calling

Brown held his own vs the big receiver, Lee did not.

I would like to add on the good side that Danny Lewis is absolutely mauling mofos blocking. I mean, he has to have the most pancakes on the team this year so far

We scored 50 points, rushed for about 250, and iced the game running the ball when they knew it was coming. What the frick are you talking about?

You seriously have to ask ? The Offense didn't do shiet the first half.. kinda like the previous 2 games. I know that you have got to know !! that this is not gonna work for at least 5 SEC games left. And especially in the playoffs. Well considering if they even make it there with no first half production. . You watched the same games I watched.. right? You asked so that's what the frick I'm talking about

They did score 26 points and really probably should not have gone for 2 and had a nicer looking 27 point instead.

We scored 26 in the first half and 24 in the second half. You're a fricking moron troll. Mods do your job and ban this idiot.

Hey idiot.. Alabama scored 3 touchdowns with 2.36 left in the 2nd q. Thank God the defense made 2 interceptions in the 1st half to help out a struggling offense. As part of the "bad" the offense struggled basically until almost until the 1st half was over. Also as I said Bama cannot do this against some of the upcoming SEC games. Also you idiot.. tell me about the Kentucky game ! My points are valid you dam jackass

So that would be in the 1st half. When you said we didn't do shite. You are a complete fricking moron. And I won't be responding to any more of your dumbass posts.

This is just dumb. You’re taking away the offense’s success because the defense did a good job too?
Our offense exploded after the lightening delay. No two ways about it. The defense was the liability.

We were losing to Fl St with only 2.36 left in the first half. I would definitely say that was not good production in the 1st half. Yes KR and the O line finally woke up and lit them up..same in the 2 half. Bama needs to play complete games and not wake up until almost the half or after the half. You are a insecure jackass who cannot think analytical. Thats fine I don't want to talk to your redneck arse either
