Football - 38 days later

Posted by UsingUpAllTheLetters on 2/8/26 at 12:56 am
Basketball is having its own issues, I’ll address it another day.

It has been 38 days since we all witnessed our football equivalent of the Tet offensive. I don’t want to reflect on this past season much, so here’s a one sentence summary: starting with the Mizzou game I felt we were out of our depth.

With that said, we have punched above our weight in the past month, especially compared to what the douchebags at ESPN would have you believe. (This is not a fealty to DeBoer and Co. btw, just acknowledging that they have definitely done a better job than sports media has reported to this point.)

What changes stick out to you? I like the change to Klemm for OL coach. I like the retention at most skill positions and a few additions on the OL. I feel DL may be thin and hope Freddie is able to make use of the kids he has recruited thus far. Also hoping there is a clear morale rudder for this group. I don’t think the coaching staff can provide that anymore, but we’ve seen other teams led by players in that department that had much success. ‘08 Florida comes to mind. Ditto ‘10 Auburn and ‘05 Texas.

It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

They are against ordinary citizens being
accosted by ICE agents, and there is plenty of evidence that it’s happening.

Where's this evidence?

They are also against agents forcing their way into homes without warrants or probable cause.
Oh , and, you know, shooting people for being in the “wrong place”…
Same question.
Uncommon Knowledge - was a good watch back in the day. It's what turned me around.

ETA - New Thomas Sowell episode dropped yesterday.

To keep to portal related news. When are they going to make a new version??
At the risk of being penalized for violation of the terms of the thread, I’ll bite. They’ll make Portal 3 if/when an outsider comes in and takes over. Gabe and co. don’t push projects on their staff, even though they probably should at least every once in a while. If/when a portal 3 is ever released I’ll submit a two-three day PTO request. lol
Looks about right. However, I'd probably swap our odds with Miami's.

Indiana is weird. I find cignetti to be very unlikable.
I’m in the same boat. Cignetti is very obviously an Asperger’s patient with some sort of complex. Having said that I’m pulling for them over NIL U.
Would have been cooler if they sat on this for like 15-20 years in my weird opinion

ETA: Think “Last Dance” but with a renewed recruiting/interest boost.

it’s actually quite funny to watch a couple posters claim “college football is ruined” out of one side of their mouth and “college football hasn’t changed much since Bryce” out of the other side.
I’m in the “it’s changed a frickton since 2022 and it’s ruined” camp. I’ve seen NASCAR, the NBA, and to an extent, the MLB ruined by bad arrangements between talent, officiating, the executives, and the fans. I’d love to believe that College Football is different enough to survive, but at this point I’ll have to see it first.

ETA: boxing. (Maybe a few more influences on that one.)
Also, I’ve got burgeoning interests in the NFL, F1, and Golf. Old man sports are untouchable.

Their fans don’t appreciate winning and it’s the same entitlement issue as the Gumps
I'm not saying these were unjustified, but as far as winning and entitlement go, hard to top the Tigers. They have fired 3 coaches in a row with winning records, 2 of whom won Natties (one Heisman between them) and the third also had a Heisman winner.
The 17th had better be a day of reckoning regardless of the portal outcome.
Why is it that you think people on this board define themselves by Alabama football’s individual game results as opposed to being invested in college football and being fans of Alabama? Are you sure that people don’t just like Alabama football and want to see them do better based on their potential?
What a coward. Kerr is ideologically possessed and deserves ridicule for dishonest proclamations like this one.
Yep. And that’s the new standard. It’s not enough that Oregon gets their arse beat too. What do you do to kick these frickers’ teeth in if we meet again?
quote:

I know everyone says this. And I don't know how much I mean it, or when it will happen...but there's just something about a 5 million dollar quarter back that can change schools 4 times in four years.

frick all that. The spirit of the sport is gone. This is now the NFL, but with no salary cap, unrestricted free agency, etc. And I don't like the NFL.

I may be on the way out.

Yep. There was a time I was a massive fan of the San Antonio Spurs. As a kid I watched NASCAR. Once there's nothing special about it, I tend not to watch as much anymore.
Watching these other teams, all with Saban disciples in the driver’s seat. Starting to feel like we missed out.
