Agreed. They are better defensively without him and it's their last game of the season.

Dropped to 8 in the latest AP. Jumped by Iowa and WV

West Virginia plays Baylor Tuesday, then plays TCU and Oklahoma State. Probably won't win out. Iowa finishes with Nebraska and Wisconsin. Good chance they win out.
I thought Iowa losing Nunge for the season would hurt them, but they looked really good yesterday against OSU on the road.

While we’re sort of talking about national stuff, I think the most interesting thing this year is the amount of old school gigantic post guys on some of these good teams.
Garza for Iowa: 6’11 265, puts up 24 a game. He does shoot some 3’s.
Cockburn for Illinois: 7 foot, 285, puts up 17 a game - has not shot a 3 all year
Dickinson for Michigan: 7’1, 255, 15 a game - does not shoot 3s.
Drew Timme for Gonzaga: Only 6’10, 235, but puts up 19 a game and does it without shooting 3s.
I’m probably forgetting some other people, but that’s 4 very prominent teams with basically old school bigs that all score at least 15 a game and mostly do it without shooting 3s.
Seems like a lot compared to previous years. Mostly you just don’t have to worry about that too much these days, but this year you do.
And some of them are fricking massive too. I watched Illinois for the first time this weekend and Cockburn is gigantic.
Should be a field day for CBB fans that love 90s NBA and posting up.
(I’m mostly ignoring that we were in it for Timme and maybe his second choice?)

Was clutch when it mattered and won us an SEC Championship. He is a legend IMO

I remember we were on him hard, were we the runner up to Gonzaga or was someone else in the mix? A&M maybe?

One of the most perplexing guys in recent CBB history to me. Just an absolute disaster on defense because of how slow and awkward he is, to the point that they have to basically burn all their timeouts late in tight games to sub him in and out depending on whether they have the ball, yet he is somehow able to produce an insane output on offense.

The bad thing is that if we face any of those four teams, we will get eaten alive inside. We'd definitely have to double any of those guys.

My 90s NBA comment aside, the problem is some of those teams run some great offense (and aren’t even especially slow-paced, notably Gonzaga).
We would still presumably try to speed some of those teams up: Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, etc.
And a lot of attempted fronting and some doubles.
Bruner is a great team defender, but probably struggles the most against big, strong guys down low.
It’s definitely an interesting problem.

I think we might have been runner-up for Timme. However, my memory of it is that by the time he committed/signed, we had sort of figured out he wasn’t coming here.
That could be revisionist though.

I was very impressed by how well Baylor was playing, without having a big name NBA lottery prospect. Looks like chemistry was key to their run, and it's more messed up. But how they look that bad is surprising.

Conversely, those guys would struggle to defend us playing 5 out.

If we play one of those teams it means we're either in the Elite 8 or Final 4 and I will be ecstatic

I believe college basketball reference can provide that

I can't really argue it either. We had a shot, and still have an outside shot. But we lost the big games that would've gotten is the 1 seed. Sucks, but it's hard to argue. Now, if we win the tournament with an Arkansas win, we might still sneak into that 1 seed. But getting that #5 seed is still great, just not as sexy to recruits or the average fan.
