During his show on Sunday, Fox Sports College Football analyst Joel Klatt discussed the firing of Florida head coach Billy Napier.

While talking about potential canidates for the Florida job, Klatt brought up Brian Kelly, who is currently on hot seat at LSU.

Klatt said that Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin would be the top canidate at Florida and LSU, if the job is open.
quote:

"We’ll see what happens at LSU," Klatt said. "That does not look good right now after that lost to Vanderbilt. Brian Kelly's up against it. They’re going to have to play great football down the stretch for him to keep his job at LSU."

"And then when that happens or if it happens, that’s gonna be the biggest domino."

"Penn State right now is the best job available, then Florida but we’re all looking at LSU and looking at what goes on there."

"I will just say this, I believe that Lane Kiffin is going to be one of the first two options at either Florida or if it opens, LSU. Lane Kiffin is either going to get a massive deal at Ole Miss to stay in Ole Miss or he’s gonna be the head coach at one of those places."

Lane is maturing. It’s amazing what’s he’s done at a bottom tier sec program. No one comes to mind that has the potential to be better, and he’s still very young. I’d roll the dice on him. Give him 5 years to see what happens.

Ole miss is not bottom tier.

That is because of Lane.

Love what I’ve seen from Alex Golesh at USF. He’s on the call list, but give him a prove it deal. No more of these insane 10 year deals with massive buy outs.

agree with the 10 year deals. But wants that new job without the protection???????? These agents have boxed teams into the corner.

Just wish the norm could be that you sign with guaranteed money, and if in 4 years you prove that you are worth it, then you get a "bonus" which could be the longer tenure and generational wealth.

Brian Kelly’s contract is generational wealth.

How about the Vandy coach? That SOB has literally done the impossible. When that QB is gone, reality is gonna set in.

Replace BK with young somebody with no baggage but a good mind for X-Os of football. Let him rebuild a Tiger football culture to be excited about.

Gotta stop hiring these stiffs. Kelly never fit in and never was going to fit in.

LSU is not open, and it wont be... buyout too great

Might as well get a nobody to replace BK because Kelly has become a nobody. Say what you want about Les Milrs & even Coach O but both led LSU to NC’s. Miles continued to keep the Tigers relevant. Now LSU is fast becoming irrelevant

Les Miles backed his azz into a national championship. Coach O earned his.

Doesn’t matter he still won and Les had some very solid teams.

How you reckon he backed into a Natty?

Saban ain’t coming back to coach college football in this pay for play environment. He loves what he’s doing now and he definitely doesn’t need the money…lol

He didn’t do well in the nfl because he wasn’t able to control his players. He won’t be able to do so in this era.

In today's game you have to have a winning re order and support from within. And then you try to capture lighting in a bottle like Burrow. It won't happen every year so get over that. In my opinion it's too early to get rid of BK. Vanderbilt, Indiana and some of the other up and coming teams are nothing but lighting in a bottle. Fore BK get one of those up and comers, when it doesn't happen right then, then what? Start all over? Dumb imo

As a Tulane fan, you go after Jon Sumrall. Slam dunk hire. Pair him with top notch coordinators and you have a CFP contender every season

UF is not a better job lol. Penn state might be because of low expectations and less competition. But no one has the talent pool to themselves like LSU.
user avatar
He never said they were a better job to LSU. He said we'll be watching to see if it opens at LSU. He was talking about open jobs right now.
user avatar

Yeah he pretty much said without saying it that LSU is the better job

Kiffin not leaving ole miss. I know he loves Oxford, and they will up his salary to likely 10mil/year. If he leaves it likely will be for NFL job. He ain’t going to LSU for sure.

Where do you think we will find $53M to buy Kelly out? By the way, Kelly has more wins than any active coach in college football.
By the way Kiffin has a losing record against ranked teams too

Ms Terry is the 2nd call
Then 3rd will be to LK
4th will be Drink

You have the order wrong Ms Terry then Nick lol
user avatar

Exactly, Miss Terry first, no need to call Nick otherwise. I think I'd probably put Drink3rd then Lane but that is a coin toss.

Lazy hire. Easy way to appease the fanbase without actually doing the work to find a high upside OC/DC to come in

Lane Kiffin pretty much guarantees you will have a good offense. Easily one of the best offensive coaches in college football. He would be much better than Brian Killy, who isn’t good at either side of the ball. Kiffin will win a Natty somewhere in his career. Brian Killy will never. So no, we won’t be in the exact same situation, with pitiful play on both sides of the ball.
