Boosters have decided they don't want to pay another buyout + NIL + new coach because they overspent on football this year (thanks Scott). However the report that will come out will cite the administration changes that took place as reason for him getting another season. Give's boosters/BoS/Verge a year to get the money together for a massive hire (yes we all know who) because everyone knows CMM is a dead man walking whether it's this year or next year.

The more influential basketball boosters are mostly a different group from the influential football boosters. I believe a part of the reason MM got another year is that those boosters generally like him quite a bit. Sort of the flip side of John Brady being fired mid-season, less than 2 years post final four run. I know Brady has rebuilt his image with the faithful, but I recollect that he was somewhat abrasive with the boosters when he was coaching LSU, though I could be misremembering, and they mostly disliked him. Winning can overcome being abrasive, but you also end up with a short rope if things start to slip.

I really hope what I heard is wrong this time but we shall see. Will know much more in the next week I think.

Did you hear that before last night's game. Because I have to think last night was so ugly it may change a few minds on that.
You want to hire a guy with 0 coaching experience? :rotflmao:

Sick of paying coaches millions to sit on their arse. Make him at least work for it.

He's basically doing that now. And he's too young to quit; he'll get another job in a lesser conference, which will mitigate some of his buyout.

Verge put it pretty bluntly earlier that he HAD to make the tournament, I mean this is pretty black and white

Not really, though I think McMahon will be gone after this season. He said reevaluate if they did not make the tournament, and has been saying some of the problems are due to losing his two best players for most of the SEC games so far.

But I think the way they are now losing probably puts an end to the Matt McMahon era right after the season ends.

$10 million to buy out McMahon and staff

First, MM and maybe some of the staff will be paid out over the duration of the remaining contract, and McMahon and staff costs are sunk costs anyway. They get paid if he is or isn't fired.

There are 5 coaches on the staff with listed contracts under basketball. Two, Casey Long and Vince Walden, have contracts that end after this season. Two others, David Patrick and Jalen Courtney-Williams, have contracts that end after next season, and one, Ronald Dupree, has a contract that ends after the 2028 season. All will be paid out monthly until the end of their contract, and all have mitigation clauses.

$5-10 million to buy a decent roster.

The NIL costs were gonna be there regardless. So also sunk costs regardless of firing MM.

$10 million plus for new staff
This is the real added cost, the salaries of new staff, and it isn't 10 million plus; that will be spread over the years, and some of the other sunk costs may be mitigated when McMahon and the old staff get new jobs.

but why would he leave NC State, where he has basically said he gets all the resources he needs there?

He also added that it was unlike any other program he has coached at.

“This is the best job I’ve ever had, in terms of the support for basketball,” Wade said via Noah Fleischman of On3 | Rivals’ The Wolfpacker. “We have everything we need. It’s on us to win. I absolutely love it here.”

But for now, we can have irrational hope.

Since when was Jalen Reed our "second best player" this year?

He was when he was playing. That was a long time ago, though.

Did this dipshit announcer just say McMahon needs more support?

He did :casty:

I'm not 100% into mid-season basketball firing, but holy shite.

You almost have to at this point.

I still don't expect it, but I would not be saddened by it in any way.

ETA: It may be the best way to salvage part of this roster for next season, if we think that is a goal we want.

Down 29 points and still standing with Arms crossed.

And people defend this shite.

My question is, will this game ever end :banghead:

Head start on the coaching search is reason enough. Even if you don't make the hire until after the tourney you can at least get the ball rolling agent wise.

Don't you think that is happening already?
quote:

Yeah, it really depends on who Wade wants to keep.

Don't you have to fire him now?

No reason to. It gains you nothing. The sport and how it is handled are different than football. Who was the last men's basketball coach fired during the regular season for a D1 program? John Brady?

It would not hurt my feelings, but it just isn't likely to happen

It’s almost impossible not to fire him before end of season.

And yet, it is unlikely to happen.

There is one player on this roster worth re-recruiting no matter the coach next year, and that's Jalen Reece.

There are a few freshmen we have barely seen, or not seen, for instance, I think Gilhool and Mosely would be worth keeping.

I think Robert Miller is at least a good rotational piece, with better coaching, maybe more than that.

I assume Nwoko and DJ are going pro if that looks in any way viable for them. If not, they would certainly be worth trying to keep.

All of that depending on what type of team the new coach is trying to construct,

I have it on good authority that this team will be at the NCAA final game...One of the boosters is buying them all tickets as thanks for not completely quitting and leaving the program midseason.

Listen to these 2 complete tards “LSU is still in consideration”

That's one of those "well, they're not mathematically eliminated" type of statements. If LSU manages to reverse this game and win then pulls off a McMiracle winning streak to end the season... :rotflmao:

Sorry
