Here's A Breakdown Of LSU's New NIL Money Headed To The Football Program

There has been a lot of chatter this week regarding LSU's NIL budget for the football program, with reports of $26 million allocated for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 teams.

Wilson Alexander of The Advocate gives a good breakdown of the NIL funds in a recent video:

“So far, Kelly said that $26.5 million combined has been allocated for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 teams,” Alexander said. “About $13 million has come from LSU’s NIL collective over the past few months. Kelly did not specify how that money was divided, but we know a chunk went to the 2024 team, and a significant portion has been used to retain key players, bring in freshmen, and sign the No. 1 transfer portal class in the country."

“The other half of the money is coming,” Alexander said. “Teams are expected to be able to start playing players this summer, and similar to their peers, LSU officials have said they are preparing to pay athletes a projected $20.5 million during the next school. Of that, Kelly expects $13.5 million to go to football.”

"LSU Football isn't planning to spend the entirety of the $13.5 million on this 2025 roster. Because payments operate on the academic calendar, Kelly said an unspecified amount will saved for 2026."

"It's a lot of numbers. The point of all of them is this: LSU has made a significant financial investment in its players this year, and Kelly thinks he has a team that can win the SEC title and contend for a spot in the College Football Playoff."

You know that is middle of the pack LAST year in the SEC with 13 MM. 8 MM is what they had last year to spend. This will still be middle of the pack. Before NIL UGA was spending Millions per year on recruiting and LSU was spending peanuts.

Great for some players. Most get very little money and they certainly can’t handle the financial responsibility at 17-18 years old. Money is gone in a blink of an eye. Better get and use the free education because most won’t sniff the NFL.

There are about 15-18 programs that will be able to keep up with this money for athletes and the rest will fall by the wayside. ALL of those programs are in the BIg10 and SEC and Notre Dame. I do not think that Clemson, NCarolina, F$U, and Miami will be able to keep up with only ACC money.

Now let's stop the nonsense of them having to go to class and being "academically eligible" which is such a waste of time. These guys aren't "scholars", they're paid to entertain us. Stop the college athlete nonsense

Well, if they’re “college” athletes, then going to class in college is required. Otherwise, end “college” football and start a minor league. Also, the majority of these athletes don’t receive a lot of NIL money nor will they get drafted. Giving them the opportunity to a free college education with a lifetime of benefits is invaluable.
