There has been a lot of chatter this week regarding LSU's NIL budget for the football program, with reports of $26 million allocated for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 teams.

Wilson Alexander of The Advocate gives a good breakdown of the NIL funds in a recent video:
quote:

“So far, Kelly said that $26.5 million combined has been allocated for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 teams,” Alexander said. “About $13 million has come from LSU’s NIL collective over the past few months. Kelly did not specify how that money was divided, but we know a chunk went to the 2024 team, and a significant portion has been used to retain key players, bring in freshmen, and sign the No. 1 transfer portal class in the country."

“The other half of the money is coming,” Alexander said. “Teams are expected to be able to start playing players this summer, and similar to their peers, LSU officials have said they are preparing to pay athletes a projected $20.5 million during the next school. Of that, Kelly expects $13.5 million to go to football.”

"LSU Football isn't planning to spend the entirety of the $13.5 million on this 2025 roster. Because payments operate on the academic calendar, Kelly said an unspecified amount will saved for 2026."

"It's a lot of numbers. The point of all of them is this: LSU has made a significant financial investment in its players this year, and Kelly thinks he has a team that can win the SEC title and contend for a spot in the College Football Playoff."

totally agree bc public libraries aren't a necessity anymore.. and why do I pay a school tax with no kids?

Exactly cheeto. We used to fund schools, if having no kids, and half azz be okay with it, believing that they'd be perpetuating the American way, so we were prolly cool with it for the most part.

But, since all that schools do now is turn out lil commies...nah, you pay for dat shitt ya own damn self!

I've learned more from watching how-to Youtube videos than I prolly every learned in school, seriously...kinda seriously...hahaha.

Cool so no excuses, Championship or bust this year? Or at very minimum playoffs or bust right? Going 9-3 again with that much money would be a legendary disaster

You know that is middle of the pack LAST year in the SEC with 13 MM. 8 MM is what they had last year to spend. This will still be middle of the pack. Before NIL UGA was spending Millions per year on recruiting and LSU was spending peanuts.
Absolutely, nothing has changed.

LSU will continue to be middle of the pack without a substantial boost.

2019 No NIL. Tens of Millions at his disposal and BumK can't come close to a NC.

Dude, this a silly comment and you know it. If NIL existed in 2019, we probably never have that 2019 team. Further, that level of NIL money just began to come in this year.

I see you Coach O! Nice user name!

Dude, it's a reference to how talent was assembled in 2019 with no NIL for possibly the greatest season ever and barely coherent HC versus what BK's performance with NIL. ¿Necesitas esto en español?

So y’all must not think all other power conf schools doing exact same thing. So no advantage to LSU over most SEC and Big 10 peers.

There are about 15-18 programs that will be able to keep up with this money for athletes and the rest will fall by the wayside. ALL of those programs are in the BIg10 and SEC and Notre Dame. I do not think that Clemson, NCarolina, F$U, and Miami will be able to keep up with only ACC money.

Don’t see any of those teams in the ACC in the short term future.

This is not a sustainable business model for any program.

It has worked well for the Catholic Church for two thousand years???

And Protestants copied it well. Ask Henry VIII and Martin Luther.

Bringing in good players but the same coaching? Will this thing get better? Seriously.

NCAA is now a professional football league. Do players even have to attend class? How long before we have luxury tax?

sounds like LSU athletics needs some savvy FP&A professionals to come in and manage this. Where do I apply?

Man it's so sad what the sport has become but it's time for regulation, there needs to be contracts and salary caps, this isn't sustainable

Yep...overlay the NFL blueprint on top and figure out if anyone really needs to go to class or not.

Class? This is about football not academia. They need to stop wasting everyone's time and stop all this classroom nonsense

The joy of college football has been the amateur level of it. Apparently, free education is meaningless.
