re: Would you be in favor of destroying infrastructure even if it leads to civilian deaths?
Posted by NASA_ISS_Tiger on 4/7/26 at 10:58 am to Ingeniero
I'll turn that question around. Does the US current adversary care how many civilian deaths it is responsible for? No, they do not. I believe in an eye for an eye. We can be more selective in nature and target infrastructure and minimize civilian losses, I agree, but Iran doesn't care who or what they hurt/kill. UN chair says what POTUS wants to do is likened to war crimes....when will he hold the Iran regime to the same standards?
Iran is playing by "Rules for thee, but not for me". That's not a level playing field. Sometimes you need to level the playing field with strategic bombing.
Linebacker in Vietnam brought the North Vietnamese to the table. It works. Nagasaki and Hiroshima brought the proud Japanese to the table (I'm not saying we need to go nuclear on Iran), but it worked and in the meantime it actually minimizes losses. The Iran regime DOES NOT CARE ABOUT CIVILIAN DEATHS! The UN is playing pattycakes with this situation.

On mine it wasn't the wax seal. Come to find out it was the tank to bowl seal and it was leaking down the side and around the front.
re: So Iran keeps destroying US/Israeli infrastructure..Trump keeps saying they are crippled..

Where has he said they are 100% destroyed? I've heard 90% and seriously had my doubts about that number too. Look politicians lie. Biden lied about his health. Obama lied about the cost of the ACA. If you don't realize that all politicians lie, then you are naive. It's the name of the game. Oh...and the media lies too.
It's all about an agenda. I don't care if you're on the right, the left, or the middle. Someone, somewhere has an agenda.

A crippled person walks slower than a healthy person (not making fun of handicapped people, just stating a fact). A crippled war machine destroys things at a slower pace. They have to be more selective in their targets. Iran will continually evolve and even though they are crippled, they are getting help from the likes of Russia and North Korea. As far as HOW CRIPPLED they are....you need to realize they have gone un-managed/controlled since the 1970s. That's a LONG time to build up conventional weapons stockpiles. They have deep pockets for military budgets. Think about how they treat their people....money other nations spend on environmental areas, welfare, medical needs....they probably don't. That money goes into weapons and R&D for weapons.

2019 C2500HD High Country/2018 Tahoe Z71/2003 F150 4x4. The Ford is garage kept and I have a limited policy on it since we don't drive it. Others have full coverage with $300 deductibles on Comp/Collision. We pay $326/month.
Let me know what you got. I'm curious if La is cheaper or we are getting screwed or we have a better deal.

Well here in Alabama there are no inspection stickers. Vehicles don't get safety inspections at all. This results in a lot of people driving vehicles with no lights, cracked windshields, and other defective equipment. As a result, insurance companies know this and jack up premiums due to the fact. I'd prefer to pay $10 (last time I was in La, that's what it was) than the higher insurance premiums. Not to mention, get some of these trashy cars off the roads.

Trump didn't do that. Market Speculation over oil supply and demand did that. It's called a KNEEJERK reaction. When you look at how much the US TRULY gets from OPEC, you'll realize Mercantile Speculation sucks.

What's stopping you and everyone else from buying American-made right now?
Other countries have cheaper labor costs, some use child labor, lack of governmental controls like the EPA allow for cheaper manufacturing, lack of safety regulations in foreign countries. When you factor things such as these, American companies have fled the US to build their products elsewhere or have shut down completely because they can't compete on the uneven playing surface.

re: Is a Four-Year Degree Worth It?
Posted by NASA_ISS_Tiger on 2/4/26 at 6:50 am to NC_Tigah
I have a 4 year BSEE. Would I recommend anyone pay what colleges are charging today for the same degree? Hell NO. Sadly there isn't much that has changed in the degree program from when I got my BSEE in 1996 to today, but the cost has skyrocketed. I got out of school with $15K in student loan debt and was able to pay it off. Took a lot longer than what they sell to you, but I got it done. Today's student loan debt for the same degree at the same college would be > $10K per year. That's more than $50K for the same degree (if you can get a BSEE and work 40 hours a week in 4 years, I commend you, but it took my 5 so I base my calculations off that). That's close to 4x for the SAME DEGREE. Yeah starting salaries might be more, but so is housing, food, insurance, utilities etc. The Risk vs Reward isn't there. Go to a junior college or Vocational Tech school and keep your expenses down and start out at the same salary! Welders, mechanics, and electricians make damn good money and don't have the overhead of student loans breathing down their necks. Plus those schools help students find jobs better than some colleges do.

One more reason I miss my ole man!
He was a helluva fabricator and not bad at all with wood either. I was blessed to have built a lot of things with him.

re: What is your golden rule for retirement?
Posted by NASA_ISS_Tiger on 12/12/25 at 8:04 am to sharkfhin
In my 50s. Obamacare came out and my insurance premiums on employer paid insurance skyrocketed 33% and I had to stop my 401k elections for multiple years to maintain the standard of living. I'm not retiring. I start drawing a pension from a company I left back in 2013 at 55, I'll likely take that check and roll it over into an IRA post tax since I can't get the company to put it in before they pay me.
Since I'm never going to retire...is there a better option than an IRA? Also since I started my 401k, I'm getting about 17% rate of return...what's a good number to shoot for there?

Can someone explain to me the difference between Select vs Non-Select? For instance I'm from Sulphur originally and they are non-select but they play Acadiana in the same district, but Acadiana is a Select school. What's that mean? They are in the same district but they would never be (if SHS would ever get in the playoffs...yeah right) in the same playoff bracket.
I know this change came about a few years ago, but I never really looked at it, and just recently tried to understand it.

I'm glad I have a direct line to God, and don't have to go through a saint,
As a Roman Catholic I don't have to go through Saints, Mary or any other sanctified person.
I guess you didn't need any person to baptize you either...you just dunked your head and became saved.
Just a note: Catholics don't NEED anyone to go to God....it's just like a person knowing a person is about to go into surgery and them saying "I'll pray for you". All Catholics do is ask Saints to pray for our intentions to help us. We still ask God directly.
