South Carolina Women Practice Against Men Team Called 'The Highlighters'

When I was in 7th grade our 7th and 8th grade team (that would finish the regular season 6-10) scrimmaged the Varsity girls that would go on to the win the girls state title.
Our 7th grade team beat them 59-41.

My brother was at Baylor in 2006-2010 and he said a men's intramural team would scrimmage WBB team at Baylor and would win pretty much every game. These are guys that were white, drinking copious amounts of alcohol potentially, and may not have quit basketball after 7th or 8th grade.

Knew a male student at Baylor that was part of a men's team that regularly scrimmaged against the women's team in 2012 that went 40-0 and won the National Championship. It was a pretty serious commitment and certainly paid off for the women's team that year.

Knew a guy 2002-2006 that did this at LSU. He worked at the rec center and actually wore a highlighter yellow shirt to all of the men’s and women’s basketball games. This is “pretend” innovative on Staley’s part AND borderline copycat on the highlighter part.

This isn't new. Pat Summit had a men's team that she used regularly to practice against her team and I'm pretty sure she took some grief for it in some way.

LSU men’s basketball does this every season when they play Ole Miss.

What a great concept to get some experience for the women's bball team. Im not sure Bama does this but I hope they do.

Some great games I saw as a kid were guys playing against the Lady Techsters. Very entertaining

Average boy HS teams are good competition for elite college WBB teams.

I've heard of quite a few women's college teams that do this. It might not be against organized men's teams, but it's some good men players who can give the women good competition.

Chick ball still sucks

Playing a short, non-athletic intramural mens team to get better is admitting that men are substantially better at basketball.

Are they called the Highlighters because they're a bunch of nerds that highlight stuff in their books? The one game shot they showed, the guys weren't even attempting to play defense.

LA Tech did this in the early 80’s.

Patting themselves on the back for beating a bunch of short white guys who can't play basketball?

Almost as much white as yellow.

UConn has been doing this since the early 90’s.

Why not just scrim their mens programs they could probably beat Lamont Paris' squad.

Clay Travis should pay them to play a boys high school team.

Baylor has been doing that for a long time, as do most colleges. But Dawn Staley wants you to think she came up with this.
