Someone is leaving either way, no matter who starts. Stet has another year of eligibility but why would he leave? Leave for where? Beck is probably gone. Vandagriff stays, Stockton coming in. This isn't a QB controversy in my opinion, it's the new normal. Stack the room, see who rises to the top, others transfer out, repeat.

I get it. Your take - out of the two, who do you think has the better chance to lead this team all the way?

If JT transfers, Kirby is going to get a lot of shite for not choosing JT over Stet, on the heels of choosing Fromm over Fields.

Not going with two NFL'ers for two "scrubs", could haunt Kirby.

Now, all else is forgiven if he wins the Natty this year.

Personally, I like the the two QB system like Tua/Hurts. It will be nice to know if one struggles, the other is there.

Stet has earned the start at this point so we just need to see how much playing time JT gets. CKS could be planning on working him in - the guy hasn’t taken a live snap in a while.

Everyone needs to calm down.

I think it is literally a coin toss. I think our running game is improved on read options with Stetson because he actually keeps the ball sometimes and gashes it. That's huge. And it makes our running game better. Better running game sets up better play action. I don't think Stet has to be the next Johnny Football with his legs, but if he can do it just enough to make an impact on the other aspects of the offense, then it is important. I think JT is the better pure passer, but Stet isn't exactly chopped liver in that department either. I think both make good reads. I don't put as much stock into the voices who say Stet is playing with a limited playbook, but with JT somehow the playbook is quadrulpled and sugar will fall out of the sky. In fact, the opposite may be true. As another poster said, I'm happy as hell to have both of them right now, if one of them struggles, we know the other is more than capable.

All that said, to answer your question, with it being a coin toss, I keep in the guy with the "hot hand" until such time as he starts to struggle. If it's true that "we can't beat an elite team with Stetson" then we'll find out soon enough, and that's when JT can step in.

I'm assuming JT is still physically unable to play. Maybe he should go on a medical redshirt this year and have two more years to play.

Thanks for the well-written response! In all honesty, I think both JT and Stet are better than what we've had in a while. I'd even say better than Fromm.

That might be a bit overstated. Daniels hasn't played in a game since Sept 25 - more than a month ago. Smart could hold back on starting him for that reason alone. I think the question is how much he'll play.

If Daniels doesn't play much tomorrow or going forward, then I agree, it makes no sense for him to remain. He wouldn't have much of a resume this year and would need to decide whether to go someplace where he can almost assuredly start next year. Either that or take a chance at the draft but that would likely drop his prospects...maybe 2nd/3rd round.

Bennett has no post-college football prospects so it would make more sense for him to return. Though that might not be a no-brainer, either - unless he simply wants to avoid the real world for another year. By next year, Smart may want to begin getting Vandagriff playing time and Stockton might also be a factor.

If that's true, Smart has been lying or trying to mess with opponents. In his post-practice reports this week, he seemed to indicate that Daniels was doing well...though he did say something earlier in the week about the next step being to see how he was in the complete game (moving around the pocket etc.).

If it's all been Kirby games and Daniels actually had a Grade 2 lat and just isn't going to be a complete, good to go until playoffs, then he ought to not play unless an emergency. Just take a med redshirt. Would seem dumb to throw into the draft if he'll only have played 3-4 games this season.

Like meansonny said, Stetson didn't do well off the bench. The 2 QB system hasn't really worked well for Kirby but hopefully they can find the right rhythm with these 2.

Not to mention the message it sends to future recruits. Just an awful decision, again.

Kirby is a helluva coach but the dude is an awful judge of QB talent.

If JT is healthy then I believe he will go.

However, if there's a legitimate QB battle between a healthy JT and Stetson then I really don't know what to say.

ESPN talking heads joking last night that he's got some challenges when it comes to managing QBs.

If Kirby could somehow win a championship every year by throwing only 5 to 10 passes a game, he probably would.

Problem is that would be the most boring offense in CF and probably not the best for recruiting certain positions with guys having NFL dreams. Best thing Smart ever did was hire Monken and at least try to keep his hands out of the offense...but I'll bet it's a struggle for someone like him.
