It is possible for sure. I do not recall us running that play a lot. If I were betting, they dialed it up for a run play to our right and it worked out really well for them with the delayed play.

We were running a pretty conservative slip screen to the TE. The blitz was a great call by them and bad for us.

The funny thing is how wrong they are, but eventually, we lose a game and then we are lectured how they knew it all along. It is an odd safety blanket for lower IQ emotional types. Typically seen more in women or neurotic sports fans.

I guess where we differ is you think the safety who is right there over the top due to the depth of the route, down and distance, that he is just gonna stand there and watch a ball thrown 20 yards over the middle. If this was an 8 yard route, it is a different situation.

Who are you avoiding by throwing the ball on Reddell's body? You aren't leading him into any defender because his route is digging into the middle of the field.
It is not bracketed. There is a safety there. Do you think if Gunner leads the TE to catch the ball on the run, which would be like a good 5 feet from where the ball was actually thrown, would that Safety would be in the same place once the ball reached that area? The answer is no.
Furthermore, we, as fans, do not know what play was called. It is very possible that in that look, the TE was to settle and he leaked due to his momentum.
Did Gunner make the right throw? There is a decent chance he did. Throwing from your endzone with a deep cross into cover 2 is a sure way to throw a pick if you decide to lead a crosser. Or maybe it wasn’t even a deep cross… maybe it was a settle.

It is not “back shoulder”… you throw the ball to the window in the zone. The receiver adjusts.

You have to understand that in zone coverage you have windows. You throw in them. It is incumbent on the receiver to settle in them. You as a QB also learn to throw it so they have to slow and reach back. If you lead them in stride in a lot of zone scenarios, you get a pick or get the dude killed. Because there is a dude posted up there.
