Not much discussion and down before earnings. I’m staying away but this is setting up to surprise to the upside.
This my take.

I have one boy in college and one in HS. Given my moderate success and how tough the world is, I want to be able to give them a hand up if needed. It’s a fine line between having them earn their way vs. being there when something big is needed. The reality is there’s only so much a college aged kid can earn and still move forward with life/education etc.

That said, I plan on having $2M plus and no debt at 60. I just need to ramp my play money IRA returns over the next 5 years so I can afford some toys.
Great post.

Keep interest rates at a healthy amount. ZIRP got us into a number of these messes.

Bulk GSE Securitization and HUD-guaranteed portfolio financing

I personally think they need to outlaw the securitization of loans all together. This would force banks to hold the loans they make and/or buy. Being able to offload loans in bulk is the definition of a morale risk.

Also need to phase out Section 8 as it’s taking otherwise livable properties and making the neighborhoods unlivable. Subsidizing payments to landlords is another catalyst for distortions.

This opens up the market rather than using govt to restrict trade.

re: How smart is your dog?

We have a female Labradoodle that is crazy smart. She knows all of our names, the names of her toys (will get them on demand), can play hide and seek with her toys and people, will NOT run out of her boundary in the yard and knows the sounds of all our vehicles.

We keep her milk bones in a container in the LR. If she wants one she’ll sit there and look at you, look at container, look at you, look at container….over and over. It’s like she can’t figure out why you’re too stupid to understand.

She can run and carch a soft frisbee like nobody’s business. That and getting some cheese when I make a sandwich are her two favorite things in the world.

I love that dog.
Did she address healthcare? Any retirement prior to Medicare needs to take this into account.
I don’t want to be old and weak. I’ve seen too many of my older relatives lose muscle as they age, have trouble with basic every day tasks and I want to fight that while I still can.

Anyone that gets a rescue Pitt Bill should be hyper vigilant. Who knows that that dog has been through.

Cruise knew exactly what the fans wanted and gave it to them. Some of it was silly but WGAF.

The only thing I thought about afterwards was if there truly was a Maverick that was still burning and still a captain he’d have God status amongst the pilot community and everyone would know him immediately.

Never forget lawyers are trained and take pride in arguing and litigating for whoever is paying them despite of the position or moral implications.
I had the chance to go to Cuba a few years ago.

It doesn’t take long to see that outside of the tourist part of Havana and the govt buildings the country is totally impoverished. A lot of the old architecture is beautiful and basically crumbling.

My take away was that central govt is not capable of taking care of everything efficiently. It’s too much. You need individuals working to succeed and profit to grow and thrive at a real scale Ie capitalism.

Cuba would absolutely explode with success if given the chance. It’s a beautiful island.

I’d dollar cost in monthly to the ETFs to avoid timing risk. I’m at around 9% annually and have a rule to start paying close attention if the ETF’s have a 15% trailing loss.

This is the rainy day fund and it’s where all of the cash goes and comes from if we need it.

You’re assuming the Denver airport is maintaining this fencing along miles of access points.

I’m going with a pothead that wanted to see some airplanes up close.

If anything COVID proved the NIH, CDC and WHO don’t have a fricking clue of what to do if there’s an outbreak. Which is kind of their whole purpose for existing.

It’s one of the latest and biggest examples of governmental agencies/orgs failing in performing their core function. Another is the SEC allowing all of the MBS bullshite that collapsed the markets in 2008.
Don’t arrest the individuals. Freeze the assets of the organizations funding it pending an IRS investigation into their nonprofit status. That will put a stop to this nonsense.
