Texas Stuns No. 1 Ohio State With Incredible Fourth-Quarter Comeback, 24-23

No. 4 Texas pulled off one of the biggest wins of the young college football season Saturday night, storming back from a 20-point deficit to stun No. 1 Ohio State, 24-23, in Austin.

The Longhorns entered the fourth quarter trailing 23-3 after Ohio State controlled the first three quarters, but Arch Manning and the Texas offense suddenly came alive.

Manning opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo, cutting the deficit to 23-10. After the Texas defense forced a quick stop, the Longhorns put together another long drive that ended with a 1-yard touchdown run from Hollywood Smothers to make it 23-17.

Texas then got the ball back with a chance to win and drove down the field before Smothers punched it in from one yard out with 30 seconds remaining to give the Longhorns their first lead of the night, 24-23.

Ohio State had one final opportunity, but Texas defensive back Graceson Littleton intercepted Julian Sayin on the final play to seal the comeback.

Manning finished 23-of-37 for 196 yards with one touchdown and one interception, while Smothers rushed for 74 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries.

Ohio State star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was dominant with eight catches for 164 yards and a touchdown, but the Buckeyes were held scoreless in the fourth quarter as Texas scored 21 unanswered points.

The victory moves Texas to 2-0 and gives Steve Sarkisian's Longhorns a massive early-season win over the nation's No. 1-ranked team.
