Georgia RB Dante Dowdell Hospitalized Following ATV Accident

Georgia running back Dante Dowdell has been hospitalized in Atlanta after suffering serious injuries in an ATV accident, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart confirmed Tuesday during SEC Media Days. Smart said it is too early to know when Dowdell will return or what the injury means for his availability during the 2026 season.
"He's injured," Smart said. "We don't know when his return will be. I don't know the specifics of it, to be honest with you. It was a recreational vehicle, and he had some serious injuries."
Dowdell transferred to Georgia this offseason after spending the 2025 season at Kentucky, where he rushed for 560 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 5.0 yards per carry. Before arriving in Lexington, he also made stops at Oregon and Nebraska during his college career.
Dowdell was expected to provide depth in Georgia's backfield behind Nate Frazier this season. There is currently no timetable for Dowdell's recovery.
The Bulldogs open the 2026 campaign on Sept. 5 against Tennessee State.
