It's a delicate balance for sure. Weigman is a true freshman so we know he isn't starting. But will he sit on the bench for multiple years? I doubt it. I could see the potential with King last year before he went down, and I strongly believe he will still be the starter. Fisher loves the kid. Johnson just doesn't excite at all

I think it will be King. The offense will be more explosive but have more turnovers as well ...

Those are the kind of excuses I'm talking about. Jimbo is supposed to be a QB whisperer/offensive genius. W/last year being Calzada's 3rd year in the system he shouldn't have looked like a deer in the headlights in damn near every game. It was completely inexcusable for him to be so unprepared.

When you're billed as an offensive guru and the offense has been mediocre for most of your time it's a pretty big issue. He's hovering in Mazzone/Spav territory when it comes to scoring which we all know is nowhere near good enough to win the SEC or compete for a title.

Under Jimbo

'18 - #22 w/34.1 ppg
'19 - #70 w/26.8 ppg
'20 - #33 w/33.6 ppg
'21 - #60 w/27.3 ppg

Under Mazzone
'17 - #25 w/33.4 ppg
'16 - #38 w/32.2 ppg

Under Spav
'15 - #70 w/26.7 ppg
'14 - #36 w/32.1 ppg

Under McKinney (w/Spav as co-oc)
'13 - #6 w/42.5 ppg

Under Kingsbury
'12 - #5 w/41.9 ppg

Excuses

I wouldn’t say those are excuses so much as facts. King was the guy, regardless of how good he is or would have been he was QB1 and I bet he got a major percentage of reps, even in camp with a “QB Battle” going on. Him going down was a big deal

I just don’t see how this is Jimbos fault, a coach can prepare you and give you all the tools but if you can’t use them or you freeze up in the moment, that’s on you. I can’t blame Jimbo for Calzada being scared or sailing the ball 30 yards over someone’s head

Just started the season thread. Be the change you want to see in the world. Lets get talking.

It has to be King. Johnson makes for an optimal QB2, and he's not going anywhere with his brither being here. Weigman has to know he's at least redshirting.

You'd have to think these guys are not going to just go from one place to another if they don't get the starting job. After last year and no disrespect to Calzada, #2 is almost as important as #1.

Losing Elko was huge.

Call me spoiled, but I came of age on Aggie football in the days of RC Slocum and Bob Davie running the defenses.

Ever since, they have all had issues.

Durkin's style reminds me of Bob Davie. All about disruption, and forcing the play

It's an excuse b/c if Jimbo is all he's said to be he shouldn't have that kind of issue in year 4. He's had plenty of time to get the roster the way he wants and had plenty of time to prepare Calzada.

It's Jimbo's fault b/c he had the guy in the program for 2 two full seasons before last year, one of which w/him as the primary backup, and was only able to get him 24 passes over those two years. His offense has been so dismal and his refusal to ever take out Mond was so strong that Calzada was not prepared to play when it came time.

This.

I've been permabanned on TexAgs multiple times for not toeing the line and calling out Looch and the mods. Tired of creating and hiding alters to kowtow to that crowd.

SECRant is fine for what it is, but it would be nice to have an Aggie-centric place to go to without the prima donnas of TexAgs.

I read TexAgs for information, but that place is so incredibly toxic, especially if you don’t subscribe to the group think

Definitely didn't deserve the raise and contract renewal prior to last season.

Deserve's got nothing to do with it. He'd probably be at LSU right now if the brass hadn't communicated that kind of commitment to him. LSU offered him more money, all guaranteed.

My biggest concern about the defense is generating a strong pass rush from our edge guys. Lost a lot of production across the entire DL so we're counting on a ton of unproven, albeit very talented, young guys to make a big leap from last year or hit the ground running right away for those new to campus.

Yeah this year will be a test for our DL group to see if we've finally got a Bama/UGA-like ability to reload a talent group.

Flop was the result of #1 QB being injured. We all know that

Don’t think that was the problem. Trying to pass under immense pressure because our online was awful most of the year was the #1 problem and it ain’t close.

A middle of the pack SEC line last year and we beat both Miss schools and Probably Arkansas. A top 3 SEC oline and we would have been playing UGA in Atlanta.

I’m not a sunshine pumper. Our oline was abysmal at times.

If you don't think QB play was a major problem last year, it's hard to take anything else you say seriously

In SEC play, we were #3 in sacks allowed and #3 in yards per rush. That seems as good or better than "middle of the pack"

OL was solid the second half of the year, but they were horrible early. Go back and watch Colorado, Arkansas, and Mississippi State (actually don't, it was bad).

Foster struggled early as one would expect. Aki was not great and lost too much weight, Kenyon was not a tackle, L. Robindon was banged up, Jahmir Johnson was Jahmir Johnson, and I don't think Duece started early.

Henson turned it around, he was solid. Though I will never understand what happened at LT last year.
