The strongest advocates for the NIL nonsense had one goal in mind - destroy college football.

Yeah NIL isnt looking great tbh. Don’t have a problem with kids getting paid. But what makes the NFL great is parity with a salary cap.
MLB has payroll tax and revenue sharing.
NBA has a salary cap and revenue sharing.
CFB is best with parity. Whatever brings us back towards that I’m all for.

This could actually help out with parity. Not sure how there was any before this, anyways.

I don’t disagree with you but it’s kinda funny listening to a Bama fan talk about parity. #1 recruiting class 9 out of 10 years and championships every other year…
CFB has never had parity.

Exactly, when in the last 50 years has there been parity in CFB? When has it not been about kids (especially the top recruits) wanting to go where they get paid most?
There are definitely some curbs that need to be put in place, but you're naive if you think this hasn't been going on since at least the 1960s.

You're all for getting rid of Saban?

CFB has NEVER had parity. It’s Bama, Ohio State, Clemson, UGA every single year.
I actually applaud A&M for taking advantage of NIL to make themselves relevant in the CFB playoff hunt

Parity maybe the wrong word but Alabama did all of that with no more advantages than any other top school. There needs to be some type of salary cap established that each school in power five can realistically meet. I have no problem with a kid getting paid because they use his likeness in a EA college football video game or he gets to do a commercial. The tricky part is allowing mega boosters to just pay kids to be on the roster at their school.

Will see. Again if it creates parity I’m all for it.
I say put the NIL money in a trust fund that the kids get if they graduate from that school. Bye bye transfer portal, hello increased graduation rate.
Lol kinda kidding if course*

That's just laughable, CFB hasn't had parity ever.
The NFL has the draft to ensure that teams can maintain a level of parity with each other as far as talent. CFB has had no concept of a draft and players often went to the schools that had the best facilities/coaches/history. I assume Alabama was ok with that not existing while Saban has been pulling in any player they've wanted over the last decade.
Parity indeed.

NIL has been around for 5 months but apparently no new information is going to be gained over the next 5 years enough to level the current gold rush out.
Ok.
Ok.

This is very true. If I am a Bama fan, no way I support NIL.
I am not in favor of NIL as it stands today being the wild, wild west. It greatly benefits schools with mad bags of money and very successful & wealthy alumni. So I should be applauding it. But in reality unless they can develop some regulations, college football as we knew it is done. In fact, I may go back to the NFL as my primary football watch.
Already happening and just gonna get worse. Examples like Ewers. Take a few million to sign out of HS. Leave HS early. Then leave OSU the following year as he wasn't guaranteed a starting job. So why not make another money grab to the highest bidder? Texas won the bid.
What happens next with him if he goes 5-7 or gets beat up due to no protection? Or the coaches don't treat him as solid gold or try to challenge him?? I can see another money grab happening and by the time NFL comes he can retire!
Not an insult to Texas. They are doing what is required and allowed to become competitive again. Ewers just happens to be the perfect example of a kid after only one thing. Becoming a good NFL talent or even a good teammate is not his primary goal. I hope we stay away from kids like this within our program but I am not sure this is reality anymore.
Only makes entitlement problems far worse and minimizes the power of coaches. And if you try to filter out these kids who are focused purely on money then you could do your program a major disservice.
A BIG problem is coming.

There will be.

You can have a cap but 50% of the schools, especially the G5 will never be able to offer anything close to reach the cap. NLI will basically create a super division in CFB at the rate it is going.

Why? You are assuming UA can not pay the going rate and you also assume it will give a program like a&m some advantage to become a contender.
In the end money and recruits will only get you so far. The key is going to be the coaching staff and their ability to develop players and win on a consistent level.
If you think Saban will not take advantage of the NLI you truly under estimate how much of a CEO he is as well as a great coach. Every time some change has taken place in CFB he has adapted and he continues to demonstrate over and over he is still the king. Again be naive if you think Saban and UA will not maximize NLI to our advantage.

50% of the schools don’t sign the elite players anyway. More like 80%
