The Ole Miss fanbase has always known who they are. They don't live a lie about it. They knew Lane Kiffin would at some point leave, and they understood and accepted it.
Although this may change with NIL, the Ole Miss fanbase knows they're not in the competitive strata of the Alabama's and Georgia's of the world.
If you believe Ole Miss was pissed because he left, then you're just not paying attention to them. They knew from the day he arrived, that if he were successful, he would leave for a better program. They were righteously upset with how and more importantly when he left.

He's believed to be the better coach. He has the better roster. He has the better defense. He has an intimate knowledge of the Ole Miss roster and it's tendencies. He understands the Golding defense and how to exploit it. He knows Trinidad Chambliss better than he knows himself. He still has loyalists in the Ole Miss athletic Department that feeds him information.
He's also playing in a less than hostile environment. That's right, I said it. Don't buy all this bullshite, pro-wrestling hype. Vaught Hemmingway stadium is about as hostile as Bryant Denny stadium.
I live in Louisiana and follow LSU football about as closely as its own fanbase. If LSU doesn't win this game, all of Kiffin's twatter trolling and media bullshite, won't seem so cute anymore.

There's a fair amount of LSU fan fiction that surrounds this slimy situation Kiffin put Ole Miss in. One of those fanciful tales is that Kiffin was "gracious" enough to loan Weiss to Ole Miss for the playoffs.
Well the opposite is likely true. Weiss probably made it clear to Kiffin that if he didn't get to finish what he started, he wouldn't head south.

What they understandably didn't expect though, was that Lane Kiffin would give them the greatest football season they've had since the early 60's. Give them a legit playoff contender and then bail on them the way he did.
Had Brian Kelly been in the exact situation at LSU and left for Alabama under the exact same circumstances, the LSU fanbase, TAF and the administration would not have tolerated it. They would never allow such an indignity. They would've fired him or told him to simply leave.The dignity of the institution must be protected, not just the football program. Ole Miss understood this.
You have a blind spot for your team and you've successfully rationalized some legit anti-social behavior on the part of your headcoach. We all get that power 4 coaching is high stakes and sometimes requires a little moral flexibility, but what Lane Kiffin did was genuinely troubling.

There is no difference between Kiffin and Sumrall. The only difference is Tulane acted like an adult, understood it was business and still let him coach in the CFP.

First of all. Even if that were true, it was an utterly untenable position for Ole Miss to be in. There's no way they could allow that to happen. It was undignified, and Ole Miss would no more allow it than LSU would've.
There's no alternate universe where the LSU administration would've allowed any LSU coach to lead their team in the playoff, while he was building his roster for the Alabama Crimson Tide. And it wouldn't happen, because it would be pathetic.
Lane Kiffin put the Ole Miss administration in a situation where they had to protect the dignity of the University as a whole, not just the football program.
Nick Saban wasn't Kiffin's mentor, that's a lie. Urban Meyer was, and that's obvious now.

And it's the fanbase that matters, not the players. No one gives a shite about them, they're professionals now, and well compensated. But the fans? Well that's a different matter.
Urban Meyer has been the amoral, college football punching bag for years now. I can promise you, he welcomes Lane Kiffin's ascension.

When you lose a dog as a kid, it's sad and all, but the gears in a kid's head shift rapidly and they get over it quickly.
Well I lost my dog as an adult, and man, that straight up fricked with me. I used to sorta make fun of adults who overly mourned the loss of a dog or cat, not getting what the big deal is. I thought people like that were weirdos
Well that changed. When my dog died, I finally got it. Holy shite, I couldn't believe how badly I mourned his loss. I blubbered for days like a child. I would do grievey shite, like get on my hands and knees, and smell the area of the carpet where he always slept. It was rough man.
