I never understood people expecting Ole Miss to fall off, especially when Chambliss got another year. They returned over 60% of their production on both offense and defense and Golding won 2 CFP games. People thought they would be around 15-20 and end the season unranked. They're clearly a top 10 program.

Kudos to Lane for finally bringing together the OM alumni and fanbase and showing what is possible when everyone pulls together.
However, what coach abandons his team in a playoff run?
I don't understand that.
Most here have probably.played team sports. You don't abandon your team or teammates ever. He did. That's a character issue.
Pete as stated, wants to be here. Is he the answer long term, remains to be seen but the evidence do far is encouraging.
The story remains incomplete at this time! But yes, why not the Sip?

Sumrall and Chesney left their playoff teams as well.

I'm sticking with my offseason prediction, there may be a fall off but it probably won't be in 2026.
Also, people are overreacting to a home win.

uh, because he didn't. Lane wanted to finish the season and LSU brass was OK with that.
olmiss ego is what kicked Lane off the team and likely kept them from winning it all last year.

This is quite possibly a TCU / Dykes type situation

5 star waiting for his turn. Top 5sh QB committed for next year. Joe Judge continuing his work with the QBs. Quarterback won’t be a problem for OM.

Would you have been ok with an LSU head coach let's say going to a rival at the end of a playoff run? Knowing that he is gone regardless of the outcome? I think not.

Of course not, but you can't complain about him "quitting" on a playoff team just because you wouldn't let him coach.
He left for what he perceived as a better job, same as Sumrall, same as Chesney.
It's why DeBoer left a team that had appeared in the national championship for the job at Alabama.

Ole Miss does have a little Cam Newton/Auburn vibe to them with Chambliss, but I see them dropping at least 2 in the reg season. If they’re healthy and make the playoffs, they can hang with anyone.
