I'd be concerned too. But your setup isn't that uncommon....neither is a shitload of water damage due to a WH issue. T&P valves fail often enough. I'd aleast put a water alarm in the pan so hopefully someone can hear it before it overflows. Be great if it was a alarm linked to wifi or security syste...

A few years ago my sister was telling me about her troubles with growing tomatoes in 5-gallon buckets. Sounded like from what she was telling me it should be at least working somewhat but apparently it wasn't so I said IDK. Later that summer I took a trip to her house and she showed me her "garden"....

She takes a pill that kills them very well if they bite but that doesn't solve the problem of them crawling on her and then crawling off her when she comes into the house.
