What else is there to do in LA? Not a lot of sports teams

If you can't find interesting and fulfilling stuff to do in any city in this country, you are a probably pretty dumb and have limited interest. Even the crappiest cities have something within an hour that is safe and fun to do with your family.

Also, even though this is an obvious troll attempt, LSU receives double the amount of applications (60k to 30k) compared to Arkansas, with 82 percent of those coming from out-of-state and actually wins national championships in major sports (see baseball last year ).

Very easy to identify someone who has no knowledge of the outside world and thinks that Baton Rouge is a "nice place." Four trips for football, and four more for baseball, have definitely left an impression on me. Now, not all of Baton Rouge is Mogadishu west, and they actually have improved some areas on the edge of campus, but I have to imagine that every recruit they fly into BTR is driven to campus in a vehicle with heavy window tinting so that they aren't able to look out at what the northern half of Baton Rouge has to offer.

I’ll be happy to compare travel schedules with you. I think I clarified in my post that the north part of town is where you want to avoid.

Your location says "Little Rock" so you should certainly not be throwing any little or big rocks in the glass house shithole you call home. To answer your question, it is because of the South LA community and culture that we take pride in and and aim to preserve. You wouldn't understand because your state does not have that.

Now, there are many shitty parts of both BR and NOLA but these issues are not unique to our cities and are pretty much seen throughout any decent sized city in the southern US.

The folks in Southern Louisiana should just be thankful that the federal government (through the Corps of Engineers) has kept the Mississippi from leaving its channel and taking a more direct route to the Gulf, as it's been trying to do for 100 years, which would leave both Baton Rouge and New Orleans sitting on a mud flat with no purpose.

You should read Katrina: A History, 1915–2015 by Andy Horowitz and Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How it Changed America by John Berry.

You'l find that the Amy Corps of Engineers is behind many of the issues they'd had.

I’m an alum that lives in Oregon. While I love the PNW it’s great to visit and be back at the university. Baton Rouge’s dining scene is better than the best of the entire state of Arkansas

The campus is beautiful and the university is one of the few bright spots in the state. It’s truly not confusing as to why people support the university but sure.

Also, Arkansas is like the tallest midget of the region as far as outdoors. Would easily be the ugliest west coast state and tons of east coast states with better outdoors. But congrats on being less ugly than Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi

Why do people support the area and university when it is not a nice place and is trending the wrong direction?

Nobody has given you the simplest most straight forward answer to this...

It is because the major state university of Louisiana is located there. Baton Rouge could be as crappy as Mogadishu or as fancy as Santa Barbara or Boulder and that isn't going to change.

There are plenty of college communities that have some sketch somewhere in the community... and in some cases it is close to campus. Many have campus ghettos... although most of those are gentrifying.

If you are rooting for your team based on how fancy the town is... you are really rooting for the wrong reason.

It’s Louisiana State. Not Baton Rouge State. I don’t particularly like what Knoxville has become but I love Tennessee as a state

Best thing about Baton Rouge, is that it is 45 short miles from Lafayette.

As noted before..... Little Rock ??? Been up there a few times & whenever it comes up in tailgating conversations with Hawgs' fan they are always against playing in Litte Rock. much preferring to play in Fayetteville. Hawg fans know why.

How about the fact that neighboring states make billions by extracting natural resources from Louisiana and the fact that we are home to some of the largest industrial markets in the world.

I moved to Gonzales, Louisiana 22 years ago. It was nice little town. Unfortunately, it is too crowded now. Areas in Baton Rouge like Sherwood Forest was very nice 40 years ago. Now, a glorious ghetto.
