re: When the SEC Adds More Schools, Who Gets the Call?
Posted by ATLTiger7 on 4/3/25 at 10:08 am
It depends...
From a "culture fit" I'd say Clemson, FSU and Virginia Tech make the most sense.
From a TV revenue stand point, if you're looking primarily at eye balls, probably FSU, Clemson, UNC and possibly Miami are the biggest national draws and have the strongest national brands. If you want to expand to new markets then UNC and one of the Virginia schools are the most logical choices since we already have a large share of Florida and South Carolina in our footprint.
If you're focusing on overall, historical athletic success, I'd say FSU, UNC, Clemson and Miami are the best options.
With all of that in mind, I'd say the best four candidates would be UNC, FSU, Clemson and one of the Virginia schools.

I remember my gym said it was going to reopen in mid-May, but a bunch of Karens on Facebook freaked out, literally calling our gym "murderers" and they backtracked and didn't open until the summer.
That's honestly the most heated I've been in awhile. I (like many others) was chomping at the bits to get back in the gym and exercise with real equipment, but because some people were scared of Covid they had to ruin it for the rest of us.
I don't care if someone wants to live in fear for the rest of their life, but don't prevent me from doing something healthy like working out. If you don't want to go to the gym, don't go or cancel your membership.

re: Could we just make Nashville the spot for all SEC championship games?
Posted by ATLTiger7 on 3/10/25 at 8:40 am
Honestly, a rotation with Atlanta, Nashville and New Orleans make the most sense in terms of proximity to a decent number of SEC schools and each location's capability of hosting major events.
Dallas/Houston could also be in the mix, but they're at more of a geographical disadvantage.

That is nothing new though.. well off kids whose parents could afford out of state tuition have been going to ole miss and Alabama for decades. I think part is getting out of state but also the Greek systems at those schools.
This is the case across the board. I went to one of the top prep schools in the South in another state and almost everyone went out-of-state for college. Most people from my home state who I met at LSU were also from prep schools/boarding schools though.
LSU should definitely focus on these kids in state, but out-of-state too. It's the most strategic way to increase our endowment and donations since you're tapping into generational wealth.

In the last five years, LSU has won:
-2 Heismans
- College Football Playoff National Championship
- Baseball National Championship
- Women's Basketball National Championship
- Gymnastics National Championship
So, not really...

re: Way to easy to blame Kelly. Hard core reality, lack of money is the real problem.

We have the third-highest NIL collective behind only Ohio St and Texas, money isn't the problem.
It's how we're allocating it.

re: What's going on in CFB?

The biggest explanation is while there is more parity due to the transfer portal, scheduling disparity seems to be at an all-time high this year.
Some teams you mentioned haven't played/beaten a single-ranked team all year, while others are beating themselves up in the loss column playing ranked matchups every other weekend.
We'll see in the playoffs just how real the IUs, SMUs and BYUs of the world are.

re: Fans leaving early-I turned off the TV early
Posted by ATLTiger7 on 11/11/24 at 9:43 am
I never leave early, but once we were down four tds starting the fourth after getting drenched all game, it was time to hit the exits.
You could tell it was over. There's lots of things to criticize from Saturday, but the fans aren't one of them aside from the 5-6 people who threw things on the field.
Most of our fans stayed in less than optimal weather conditions until we realized there was no hope.
Also, I thought we were as loud as ever on the opening drive. I literally couldn't hear myself yelling.

We'd easily be undefeated with IU's schedule so far.

Downtown definitely has some dumpy areas for sure, but you should branch out to the Beltline/areas off of it, Midtown, The Battery, etc. next time and get back to me.
They're also building a whole entertainment district right next to Mercedes-Benz Stadium that will hopefully be finished by then.

re: Is there a larger group of bellyachers in the SEC than Ole Miss?

That's rich considering Ole Miss fans threw beer cans and water bottles at our players last year: Starts around 1:48 in the video.
They also did it in 2022 vs. Miss St :

re: South Carolina stadium
Posted by ATLTiger7 on 9/16/24 at 2:15 pm
Thought it was a great atmosphere, especially for a noon kick. It was definitely one if the more electric atmospheres I've been to (14/16 SEC schools now), but I never thought it got that loud and I was near the field. I'm guessing the early kick was to blame for that. ... Sandstorm and the towels were really cool, not going to lie.
Overall I thought the stadium was great once you were in your seats, but I missed half the second quarter getting drinks and waiting in line for the bathroom. The only stadium I can think of that was worse in that regard was Little Rock.
Their tailgating felt very NFL-like to me though with it all confined to parking lots. That said, the Cockaboose was really cool.
I must've hit up the wrong bars because I thought their co-eds were very average for SEC standards and didn't hold a candle to Ole Miss, Bama, LSU, Auburn, etc.
Columbia was a cool town though and I'd definitely go back whenever we play again. Fans were really cool and some of the nicest I've dealt with in the SEC.

re: Late Question about the USC vs LSU Game
Posted by ATLTiger7 on 9/16/24 at 7:58 am
Zero problems with USC fans before, during or after the game. It kind of felt like you all were just "there" and weren't as vocal or passionate as us, but I feel like that's more common with west coast fan bases.
USC fans were few and far between until around two hours before the game where they came out of nowhere and just rolled up to the stadium. It was probably a 55-45 or 60-40 LSU crowd advantage though.
The only thing that caught me off guard was that USC fans felt more "blue collar" and NFL-like than what I was expecting. I'm guessing you all are similar to Miami where you get a lot of non-alumni fans who root for you.
SEC fan bases tend to dress up more than other conferences too, especially ones who could afford to make it all the way out to Vegas.
Overall, you all were cool in my book though and appreciated no one talking crap to us after a close game.

re: LSU vs USC flights
Posted by ATLTiger7 on 6/20/24 at 9:21 am
There's way cheaper flights out of ATL, Houston and DFW if you can drive to any of those places or, get a connecting flight, or even book a cheap flight there and then use another airline to get to Vegas. I got a $500 round-trip flight from ATL to Vegas flying in the morning of the game and back on Tuesday.

Also the loss to FSU wouldn't have kept us out of a 12 team playoff either year
It absolutely would have last year. We were ranked 12th in the final rankings and the group of five team gets an automatic bid and wasn't ranked in the top-12 so we would have been the first team left out last season. If we hadn't lost to FSU we would have been safely in and ranked ahead of Mizzou at no. 8.

From a Southern sense, Charleston, Nashville, NOLA, ATL and Dallas have the most.
Workouts During Post-Surgery Recovery
Posted by ATLTiger7 on 2/13/24 at 11:38 am
Long story short, I have a surgery to get a fractured bone in my wrist fixed and it's a 6-12 week recovery time.
I currently work out 2 hours a day for six days a week and the longest I've ever taken a break in the past 10 years is maybe a week tops.
So I'm obviously not loving the recovery time and am trying to figure out how I could stay in shape without losing too much muscle mass. Cardio, abs and legs (minus dead lifts and possibly squats) shouldnt be an issue, but arms, chest and back are going to be a challenge without using a wrist.
I just bought some velcro straps to put on my upper forearms so I can possibly connect those to a cable machine, and I could always keep using my right arm these next two months, but I'm worried that could create a significant imbalance issue.
Wanted to see if anyone has had to deal with something similar, or if you have any ways I could get creative to stay in shape and minimalize losing too much mass.
Thanks for any insight/suggestions

Honestly, Texas fans were some of the coolest I've ever met for an away game in 2019. I had zero issues with any of them and lot came up and shook our hands after we won.
They're cool in my book.
