Les Miles from 2005-1/8/2012

Ed Orgeron, how and the Frick did that guy get not 1 but 2 SEC jobs. He’s lucky he isn’t coaching the defensive line at a high school somewhere.

Frank Leahy, Earl Blaik, Ara Parseghian, Howard Schnellenberger, Jimmy Johnson, Lou Holtz, and Dennis Erickson didn't win their conferences either.

Took over what saban built and lucked into a BCS Title with 2 loses. Constantly had a horseshoe up his arse. It eventually felt out tho.
This. Never seemed like a cerebral guy or a particularly talented coach/motivator, but took what Saban built and miraculously managed to not eff it up for several year.

I can't believe someone paid Butch Jones millions a year to coach football. I gotta go with him.

Oh, so a team in a conference HAS to win their conference while a team that is independent can just stroll into the title game playing anyone they want along the way?
Very interesting.

Is Iowa sodomizing Ohio State considered luck for Bama?

How did that flunky Bobby Williams in East Lansing do after Saban left Michigan State?

I think when you listed a bunch of coaches that werent in a conference and said "they didnt win their conference" you though it was clever
However, saying someone didnt win their conference implies they were in one, which they werent
I think you thought you were being clever but in reality you just werent grasping the english language

Spurrier...he lucked out that UGA (and Bama, for the most part) was inept during his time at Florida, and when he was at SC, the East was mostly a shambles.
Timing and opportunity.

Saban. The only coach that can publicly cheat (did the whole Ole Miss from trash with no up side to riches but without the probation), has refs moving balls for him, has backdoored his way into 2 NCs, and never plays more than one or 2 good teams a year to get to a NC game.

Another Aubbie broken by the SECCG.

You forgot Joe Paterno. Honestly it'd be sweet to have a dozen or so actual powerhouse schools again who are Independents. I feel like that would make it way more interesting than having Notre Dame be the only really possible wild card.
