Rory playing the course exactly how the Euros said to on this hole, bomb and gouge
Rory  you are the one leaving your face open and pushing every putt right, not the green

quote:Dude, you are arguing against a strawman
So 115 years ago. Should we also compare other sports to what they looked like over a century ago? Maybe your question should be why it was standardized and maybe you'll stop being a dumbass about this
Par is fine to use and makes sense for fans following. It should stay as it makes tracking a tournament live so much easier
But one thing you said that it’s the entire point of golf is ludicrous, as total strokes is what matters and will always matter, and more importantly my main and only point, raw strokes is factually based on actual freaking data a better way to judge performances than score to par
That isnt controversial or even subjective. You have chooses to argue with a mouse in your pocket I guess while yelling about others arguing

Golf was played for over 400 years before Par was accepted
Yet you say the entire game is based on par and I have the shitty opinion here
Par makes it easier to follow . If it didn’t exist, which it hasn’t for over 80% of the history of golf, it wouldn’t matter. Without Par golf can still be played 100% fine. Once again, that isn’t an opinion

Par was standardized in 1911. Please show where I ever said differently
Par did not starting to get leaned on, as I said verbatim, until the golf tv boom in the 60s
Look it up if you don’t believe me. Before then total strokes was still the most used way to report on golf . When tv came around score to par made it easier to let the audience stay engaged with where everyone stood since players were on different holes as they were watching it unfold

It’s not. Find any data metric that says using score to par is better than raw strokes for judging performance or a course
It’s objective what I posted , not my opinion

I have never heard anyone actually refute using total strokes isn’t better than score to par
Statistically speaking it’s extremely clear what are the best ways to judge performances and its this:
1. Strokes gained relative to field
2. Raw strokes adjusted
3. Raw strokes
4. Score to par
That isn’t arguable

So if I take the exact same hole, exact same, we both make 4, but it’s marked a par 4 the day I play and par 3 the day you play I got a better score on it?
No, you didn’t, we both hit the ball 4 times to get it in the damn hole

It’s 100% true, all of it
st. Andrew’s plays a par 72 at 7300 yards while Shinnecock plays to a 70 at 7400 yards……
It makes far far far more sense to measure any course my total strokes versus par

The entire game of golf is actually built on how many strokes it takes you to get the ball in the hole
Par is arbitrary and meaningless. Without any par standards the game doesn’t change.
A 290 yard par 3 or a 290 yard par 4. Same exact hole. Neither is harder than the other….You make a 4 on both its actually the exact same score
It didn’t become a thing really leaned on until TV golf in the 60s

Total strokes should always be used versus score to par IMHO

Yeh true. Every year the little leprechaun and posh British media act like the open is a true test of a golfer and tricky blah blah blah when it’s really a goat ranch and easy

We are going to see like 20 plus rounds in the 60s

What a goal post move from you :rotflmao:
You said Argentina dominated possession in the first half and up to the point England scored. I simply showed you that you were completely incorrect and possession domination did not happen until England scored and Tuchel started his subs

Can’t stand the NBA and love hockey
I wore this while drinking my morning coffee this morning actually:
Just no need to have a melt fest over the Knicks when their storyline was bigger, and it’s the fricking ESPYs anyway. 15 years ago maybe anyone cared

The Knicks lost what, two games in the playoffs? Real achievement there, difficulty wise.
Odds for team USA to win gold before tournament started: +200
Odds for Knicks to win nba title before season. +900
The Knicks faced far longer odds and overcame a longer title drought. OP is in perpetual victim status
