Will Muschamp. Was made the coach in waiting (with a huge raise) at Texas and managed to dodge the mess Mack Brown was creating. Got hired for a job that was a little too big for him at the time. Got fired, with NO OFFSET LANGUAGE. Got hired at $2m/year to be a coordinator in the same league, getting paid in full by two teams. Now he's got another HC opportunity in the SEC and what seems to be a much better fit.

Saban. The only coach that can publicly cheat (did the whole Ole Miss from trash with no up side to riches but without the probation), has refs moving balls for him, has backdoored his way into 2 NCs, and never plays more than one or 2 good teams a year to get to a NC game.

That's some nasty butthurt.

Why should I respond to someone who can't use proper punctuation or spell correctly?

However, saying someone didnt win their conference implies they were in one, which they werent

Here you go again. Has the Louisiana education system devolved so much that they aren't even teaching basic grammar and spelling anymore? I retract my lame fat joke from the start of my response. You're just simple-minded.

I think its a toss-up between Chizik and Miles.... both had nearly identical winning percentages in close games decided by 7 points or less:

Chizik: 12-6 (66.67%)
Miles: 37-19 (66.07%)

Part of me wants to give the edge to Miles because he somehow lucked into the 2007 National Title despite losing to not one but TWO 5-loss teams in Kentucky and Arkansas. But that luck canceled out four years later when they were forced to play Alabama in a rematch despite having the far better resume and the fact they already beat them in Tuscaloosa.

Ed Orgeron....

How anyone with his record and behavior could even get a low entry level, position coach job, at any NCAA school would only be because of some lucky circumstances.

How anyone with his record and behavior could somehow land another big payday head coach job is beyond lucky, it is a damn miracle.

How anyone with his record and behavior could somehow get a salary and buyout contract that guarantees him a life luxury the rest of his corn-dog, coon-azz, gumbo-cooking, English language murdering days has to be regarded as divine intervention.

Nick Saban

I could support this idea. Obviously the man is a great coach, but many of his championships were won because some other team suffered an inexplicable loss:

*In 2011, Oklahoma State suffered their only loss at Iowa State (6-7) which made it possible for Bama to get back into the National Championship Game despite already having lost to LSU at home in the regular season.

*In 2012, Kansas State suffered their only regular season loss at Baylor (8-5) which made it possible for Bama to get back into the National Championship Game late in the season after having lost at home to Texas A&M.

*In 2018, Ohio State inexplicably lost at Iowa (8-5) by 31 points which was the likely difference maker, sending Bama to the Playoff instead of the Buckeyes.

That's 3 National Championships for Saban in which a team lost in November to a 5-loss opponent which allowed bama to get back into the NC picture.

That's pretty lucky.

Les Miles from 2005-1/8/2012

From 2005-2011, Miles won 71.8% of his games that were decided by 7 points or less.

From 2012 until the end, Miles won 58.3% of his games that were decided by 7 points or less.

... his luck did seem to run out just a bit.

He still needed all the luck in the world to overcome his own terrible coaching. Only that guy could nearly sabotage the talent advantage he almost always had.

No doubt he had luck, I still think Gene is way ahead of him.

How did that flunky Bobby Williams in East Lansing do after Saban left Michigan State?

Wait. So you want to compare what Saban built at the #2 school in the state of Michigan - at his first HC stop of more than 1 year - to what he built at LSU the #1 school in the state with rich talent all around?

You don't think perhaps Saban was a better coach during his time at LSU than he was at MSU? You don't think he recruited better?

As for the replacements, Bobby Williams had never been a HC before he took over at MSU. Miles coached for 5 years at Ok St. before taking over at LSU, so he at least had some HC experience (28-21 record) AND the cupboard was much better stocked at LSU when he got there than it was at MSU when Williams got there.

Is that a requirement to winning the CFP? Was it for the BCS?

I see Alabama going 11-1 in the SECW with their only loss being to top 10 teams. The 2005 and 2009 Natties are the only National Championships in which both teams were undefeated. Why is luck needed to overcome a single loss?

ETA: The 2003 and 2004 Naties were also undefeated
