Penn State and Florida are the only jobs of that list that are more attractive than Auburn… and I only put Florida ahead because Auburn has been such a circus as of late.

Let’s say Auburn has a head coaching vacancy. How does that job stack up against other current openings in terms of attractiveness?
Penn State
Florida
Arkansas
UCLA
Oklahoma State
Oregon State
Virginia Tech
Stanford
Colorado State
UAB
Kent State
Kent State is looking pret-ty good....

Behind Florida because of proximity to recruits but equal to Penn State.

I think Auburn will return to its glory days sooner or later. The history is there, the fanbase is there. They're just missing a great coach who can put it all together.
Third behind Penn State and Florida, like everyone else is saying.

If their boosters could be reigned in and told to shut the frick up and get in line, it would be a top 10 job

Barn is third. Absolutely behind Penn st. Penn st plays an easier schedule, is the premiere program in their own state(shared with lil bro Pitt instead of big bro bama). Have a huge alumni base and money, the only premiere program from Maine to the dmv which includes some elite recruiting pools. Penn state should be better than they are.

I would say
1) Penn State - absolutely massive fanbase, facilities, money, easier path - and the only decent team in a state with decent talent.
2) Auburn and Florida - not much differentiating these two at this point in time. Both are not the dominant powers in their respective states (Bama, UM - Florida State and UCF have more recent Nat'l Championships)

Auburn is always going to be behind Bama just in the State of Alabama. So no true Alpha coach is going to want that.
Tubberville changed that some in the early/mid-2000's but we all knew that was more of a fluke than the norm. That's why they always counted on their fingers when they racked up a few wins.
Daddy was always going to return home one day...
Florida > Auburn > Penn State > Arkansas > pick any of the rest at this point

Right after Florida. Auburn is a better job than Florida because they have a similar collective, similar last 30 years recruiting history, similar tradition over the last 30 years and the cost of living in Auburn is at least 20% cheaper than Gainsville. The one reason Auburn is still slightly below Florida is because they have a recent history of short leashes for their coaches.

Penn State is a better job than both because they are the only school of note in their state and the B1G is much easier to win than the SEC. Every single coach in the SEC would make the playoffs annually at Penn State.

I just googled “Hugh Freeze”. The very first picture was him on a golf course, driver in hand.

I actually agree with this, all rivalry nonsense aside. The truth is, judged on the totality of the programs, Penn State only barely edges Auburn in stature. Florida may have more success in the eyes of those who started paying attention in 1990 or so, but I would rank PSU and AU 1a and 1b, followed by Florida.

Not a slam dunk psu is better, au can match nil, and in the heart of the countries prime recruiting grounds, proximity to Atlanta and Florida

Auburn is a good job.
I think I would put it even with Penn State.

PSU is a hard sell. Top 15 (barely) in recruiting. With limited recruiting potential and 2-3 schools ahead of them in conference.
Florida is a mess but has a solid roster and would pay for a winner.
That’s theoretically the top 2 spots. I would go Florida, Auburn, PSU as the top 3.

Penn State isn't really limited in recruiting potential. The have plenty of money and they are traditionally the school top players choose who live in PA, NY, NJ, MASS, and the other New England states. They can recruit in Ohio and really only have to compete against Ohio State and Michigan. They have always been able to get guys out of the DMV and West Virginia as well.
Auburn is surrounded by lots of great players (no doubt they are located in a great spot) but they are also surrounded by a bunch of other top programs.
