Think I recall a quote saying he was relieved a bit, as the the stress was causing health issues, and he wanted to be caught.
Something to that effect.
He was certainly the quintessential bad stereotype of a bandwagon fan. Born in TX, lived in Florida, moved back to TX for most of his adult life. No affiliation to the state or university in any way that I am aware of other than watching or listening to the Bear Bryant show when he was a kid and becoming a fan. Moved briefly to AL a couple years before killing trees and ended up in LA. Naming his kids (what an awful name is Crimson Tyde for a girl) and dogs after Bama related things is nuts, but so was he apparently. Just an embarrassing thing all the way around.

I'd imagine that he was completely out of his mind and there was a disconnection from reality.

an even scarier thought: there are plenty of bammers out there to this day that still look up to the guy and practically worship him. My wife went to school with a bama fan that loves to tell people that he knows harvey personally and wears it like a claim to fame badge of honor.

If Harvey had never poisoned the trees, they would’ve died. The pressure washing had done a number of them.

Here is an aside about a prank that was sneaky as Hell but imaginative and funny as Hell too.
Back about 1896 Georgia Tech was visiting Auburn to play a football game.
Some Auburn students greased the railroad tracks that GT would be arriving on.
The train slid a few MILES before stopping.
The GT team had to walk back to the station carrying their equipment (which granted, wasn't that much).
Auburn beat the crap out of Tech.
Now THAT is a prank. I tell every Auburn fan I meet about it because I don't want the story to fade away, even though they did it to us.

We used commemorate it with the wreck tech pajama parade on the eve of playing them, but that of course went away when Auburn and Tech dropped being annual rivals.
Guarantee you we’ll do it again if we ever get them back on the schedule.
