Back in the big12 Texas fans used to chant “poor Aggies” so I was convinced they were just a hardscrabble program that tried to do more with less, like Oregon State. Their stadium was ugly

Now they flaunt their money and have a nice looking stadium. Was Texas A&M always this wealthy, or has this been a new development from the SEC move?

Everything is relative. Compared to Mizzou, its the land of milk and honey.

A&M has always had money, by the virtue of the large number of graduates and how the money is split up in Texas. Their stadium has always been ugly and still is. Everyone called them the poor Aggies because they always lost, they were delusional, but we felt sorry for them.

Fran set us back 10 years. He couldn’t recruit. We had rosters with 1 5 star, 5 4 stars, and the rest 3/2 stars. Rare to have NFL talent. We constantly finished 8-4. We didn’t have an OL until Sherman. Mediocre. But outside horn and Sooner, no one had talent.

Tho we recruit better in the SEC, but everyone has blue chippers. Most years 5 SEC teams finish Top 10. The Big 12 is still talent dry except for Tech.

But to be fair, you guys were mediocre too. And you played in the Big 12 North, which is like the SEC East. Big 12 South was more like the SEC West.

You chose an 80’s pic? Why no Zone that we had in the Big 12 years? That’s the wrong pic.

We didn’t have The Zone until the 99 season.

I thought the Big 12 started around there for some reason.

1996

Back then the North teams were more dominant, until around 2004

Upgrade the conference, then upgrade the stadium

The only reason atm is “rich”

They sued the State of Texas in the late 1920’s

Beggin that they belonged and were a branch of the University of Texas, to get money

all of aTm’s money has and will always will be controlled by UT in Austin, a few blocks from UT

Before the 1967 expansion, Kyle Field was fighting it out with Razorback Stadium for smallest stadium in the conference. We kept adding to the stadium as the student body and number of alumni grew, but it took a while for that to really generate big demand for tickets and more revenue. Joining the SEC and rebuilding the stadium changed things dramatically. The timing was perfect. Now, the stadium provides a solid financial foundation.

No, but they were scrappy and tough. These days, they are everything they've always accused Texas of being.

the money has always been there, but they never really had a coach or program that was worth spending on until the move to the SEC.

I guess you missed the Cotton Bowl where Aggies stonewalled Bo Jackson 4 times in a row on the 1 yard line.

And I guess ou has forgotten John Blake.

As a neutral observer, this is true. You guys are two sides of the same coin, although Texas obviously has more national success.

Having a country who sponsors terrorists (Qatar) invest in your university doesn't hurt.
