1999 Sugar Bowl Texas A&M v Ohio State, I think it was. RC played not to lose the game. He had lost his edge, and it was only a matter of time. He lasted a couple of more years, but it was a slow decline.

Maybe he was past his prime but at least he had his team ready for that big12 championship game

Since you mentioned it. The defense was legit in 1998.
And we had some heroes step up in that game. By taking some chances - because they had to.
But in the bowl he just didn’t take any chances.

Somewhat agree.
What really killed A&M in that era was Wally Groff. Instead of using the uptick from the 80s to really invest in the programs, he simply milked the profits. That really knee capped the football program as Texas and OU invested in facilities, and we had our state of the art 1961 weight room.
It wasn't until Byrne got there and pushed for investment that things begin to change, but he brought a different set of problems of his own.

Groff set the stage but losing to Texas Tech more often than winning, and Texas finally getting their coaching hire right with Mack Brown sealed the deal for RC.

It’s crazy how good Brown was, the most successful period in their history but could only win one title that would’ve been nullified if replay existed. As good as Mack was they should have won 2 at the least

You’re correct. Wally Groff was clueless. A&M fell far behind in facilities for no legitimate reason during his tenure.

Was it comical when Aggie beat y'all 73-0 in '93?
Oh - yeah.... that game. I was there. That was actually the first time I travelled to an away game. It is shocking that I have watched any football since then without a little ptsd. But - that is what happens when your administration completely ignores the athletic department for over 10 years. It takes a generation to recover from that type of neglect.
I will say that Kyle field then vs now is clearly not the same place. It was pretty ulititarian back then (as were a lot of college venues). I don't recall all the details, and I've lost the negatives from any pictures I took, but pretty sure one end zone was completely wide open.

Average and median are different. Yes. The Aggies may have a kid or kids that get PE degrees and make 350k a year.. but what does that say about be kids that are making jack shite to get that average salary.
That's not how the law of averages work buddy. If your statement were true we'd have many more graduates making significantly less than the ones pulling down $300k+/yr.
It probably represents a typical parabolic curve.

Fun fact: Zachry did the expansion from just the horseshoe in (I think) the 1970s. They were pressed for time so they lifted each concrete section complete with sitting already assembled in place piece by piece. Modular building construction. Very utilitarian indeed.
The same thing was done at the Palacio Del Rio hotel in San Antonio. As the city prepared for the 1968 World's Fair, Zachry used modular hotel suites with plumbing fixtures, lighting, art work, furnishings all already installed and then placed them in piece by piece.
As a small throwback, during the recent $500MM renovation Kyle Field's brick facade is precast brick form liners with a decorative masonry finish. Those aren't real bricks, it's more like a veneer.

I typed it into Google and got this...the math is not adding up at all. How are there 3 Texas teams when 2 of teams in the Final 4 are Duke and Florida......very odd.
In the 2025 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, Florida made the Final Four alongside three Texas teams: Texas Tech, Houston, and a fourth team (Duke). Florida and the three Texas schools comprised nearly the entire Final Four, with the Gators ultimately defeating Houston 65-63 to win the National Championship in San Antonio.
Wtf am I missing..Google is much smarter
Not talking 2025 Final Four...I'm looking at:
2025 Houston
2021 Baylor (won it all)
2019 Texas Tech
Texas schools in the Natty
The number of Texas schools competing in the big 3 sports is impressive
