Other than Cade Mays and Josh Malone, I literally cannot think of another TN native of consequence.

Let the Vols fill their roster with Tennessee kids, and we'll do the same with Georgia boys and then see how that shakes out.

In researching, it seems like this GM title is really a glorified hybrid of the Director of Player Development and Director of Recruiting, no? I don't see anyone offhand with title of director of recruiting (looks like Tommie Robinson has the recruiting coordinator label, in addition to RB and AHC titles), but did come across this:
LINK

Is that the same Frank Wilson who is head coach at UTSA right now? Damn LSU... It's been 2 years... update yo shite.

I always heard how great of a hire he was when he came back to LSU, but i still for the life of me cant figure out what his day to day job was. As far as i know he was key in getting 2 players to LSU from out of state, other than that what else did he do? Didnt we also have to get a waiver for him to recruit because our 80 year old DL coach couldnt do it?

It wasn’t a poach, IMO. AT is from Tennesse

He's from Franklin, Tennessee to be specific. If he were "moving home" he would've taken a job at Vanderbilt.

The article mentions that he is taking a "similar position" at UTenn, which basically means that it is a "lateral move" for him. Coaches usually only leave a program if it's to make an "upward move."

It's the same position, but they offered more money, we matched and even offered a raise, he simply wanted to go home.

You mean going forward? There are plenty...

Master Teague is going to be a hell of a RB. We'd have taken Alontae Taylor, he'll be good... maybe not elite. Don't know much about their 2019 class in state, but 2020 has some legit OT prospects (and whatever you call Jake Wray... ) Couple of well regarded skill guys in Darin Turner and Keshawn Lawrence... Suffice it to say, the in-state talent in Tennessee is actually improving pretty well. It's not GA, FL, or TX... but it's not exactly a barren wasteland either.

As to "closing the borders"... it all comes down to expectations. If you mean that you can basically say that 6-7 of the top 10 guys in state will pick the Vols if you want them... it's probably not far off the mark... Pruitt will recruit well there. Going to have to be patient on wins/losses though.

No one considers their grad school "home." He's a Lipscomb alum.

If this is considered a huge get, Tennessee is in deeper doo-doo than even I imagined.

Georgia needs to start purging these new posters, ASAP. This is beyond terrible, ruining the entire board.

Tennessee is about to have the most talented class ever in the state for 2019. Thomas was instrumental in getting 2 big time prospects to LSU from TN in the 2017 cycle when he was forced to step up and recruit for us because of our interim DL coach not being able to.

The kid knows what he's doing, and the timing of this hire for Tennessee is all about trying to secure this 2019 class from the state.

But to hire him away from a fellow SEC school for the same position is crossing the line

frick your line. If LSU's administration is going to allow political optics to overcome good operational decisions us other SEC programs are going to take advantage of that weakness.

The blood is in the water.
