That sounds like hazing... but it isn't included on the preeminent list of hazing deaths. I'll take your word for it that it happened though.

When the OP wrote “NSU” he was talking about Northwestern State, not Nicholls State.

There are a lot of rumors about how the library system is run that don't sound so promising. Hopefully all of these rumors are false. For example, it has been said that the system had upwards of $3 million in uncollected overdue fines and other charges for unreturned items with no plans in place to require payment. It has also been said that the library was waiving these fines and charges after 7 years any way, meaning that you could check out thousands of dollars of items with no intent of ever returning the items, and the library would not only do nothing to see that you paid them back but they would also automatically return your library account to good standing 7 years later regardless. This probably means that the uncollected $3 million would actually be millions more if so much of it weren't waived every 7 years. Recently the library said that they wanted to stop collecting past due fines altogether. There was also a supposed laptop computer loan program that had to be discontinued after all but one of the laptops in the program were stolen or destroyed. Money was also supposedly wasted on a framed-painting loan program that has since been ended. :wah:

I thought that it was supposedly to replace burned up kindling in the fireplace. Also, you wrote that they "read," which is kind of tough on the eyesight when it involves only candlelight-level brightness.

Two weeks into January seems like an odd time to let an administrator go. Is there anything else to the story

I think that there has been a lot of exaggerating in this thread. From what I understand, Mr. George has done pretty well there. There were only a couple of issues that I know of.

First, this is immediately after the football team faced crippling LHSAA sanctions. In the past it had been a multi-time state championship-winning program that had a reputation for being clean, but it now looks tarnished. I'm not sure how much of that can really be held against Mr. George, however.

Also, the school doesn't hire directors without PhD's but apparently made an exception for him because he had promised to get one. Last I heard, he had still not obtained it.

The Caterie burned down. A Baton Rouge institution gone forever. I mean, yes, you can always rebuild, but you can never recreate the original atmosphere.

If cable television (i.e., MTV and VH-1) wasn't available to you, then "Hot" was the best show to watch, because it was on every weekday after school. :dude:

The EBRP GOP chairman was very clear that the parish party apparatus was solidly behind Sid.

I think that McKnight was really the main one who supported James, other than John Delgado (if Delgado is even still a Republican, that is…a Facebook page attributed to him indicates that he was firmly behind MULTIPLE Democrats this Fall, including Kamala…did he switch parties?).

was he just not motivated anymore

The story that I heard was that he just took all of that NIL money that he was offered during the offseason and "retired" off it. If that story is true, then I'm sure that he is financially set for a while. However, his sponsors probably didn't appreciate him quitting before he got the chance to show some stuff on the field.

You forgot about Gary, Austin, and Hunter. :spank:

These guys were all Tigers but played at a lot of different high schools. Gus and Gary were from Baton Rouge High, Brian was from University Lab, Todd was from Trafton (now Dunham), Austin was from Parkview Baptist, and Hunter was also from Dunham.

Are they still useful?

Radar detectors were once very useful back when police still used radar guns (the beam was very, very wide, and if they pointed it at a car far ahead of you, you could still pick up some of the remnant of the beam on your car's radar detector and know that the police were out nearby hunting for speeders).

However, these days police use laser guns, not radar guns. Laser guns produce a single, narrow beam from the officer directly to your car. This means that if your laser detector picks up the beam then you have already been zapped by the police, and it is too late to try to slow down. Best hope at that point is to just take the first side road that you see, then hit the gas and just try to get out of there before the officer can get to where you are.

How can you not be sure about Toledo? His Toledo exit was by far the worst of all of his coaching stops.

We haven’t lost to USC Lite in 30 years

Shouldn't have lost that game either. Right before halftime LSU was backed up pretty deep, so Hallman decided to run out the clock and go into the lockerroom with a nice lead, but instead of having the quarterback take a knee to run out the clock he had a running back run it. Of course, there was a fumble, and Scar recovered the ball deep in LSU territory and scored a TD a couple of plays later. Kind of like the "Miracle in the Meadowlands" game. Those points helped make the difference in the final score.

Then the next year, the game ended in a tie. Three straight games before that game the SEC player of the week had been the running backs of the teams who had played against SCar, so everyone was sure that the combo nicknamed "Thunder and Lightning" (Cleveland and Faulk) would run all over SCar's helpless run defense for 400 yards...but DiNardo came out passing against the Gamecocks instead, and LSU's passing game got stuffed by them, and LSU to settle for the tie. :banghead:

Going back and trying to change the past is stupid, wrong and unbiblical.

Bruh, I think that was the season that it was revealed that UF had committed an astounding 107 NCAA infractions. These violations were all known before the 1984 season had even started, so they should never have even been eligible for the SEC title to begin with. Honestly, with 107 infractions, they were lucky that they weren't given the death penalty - LSU recently committed just 3 violations (very similar to Auburn's recruiting of Cam Newton, which earned AU no NCAA penalty to speak of) and LSU still had to vacate 5% of their all-time win total, sit out a bowl game, pay fines, shrink their football budget, lose scholarships, and be placed on probation for 3 years.
