The only real parallel is Bill Snyder at Kstate.
Snyder is actually a really good comp, not only because both are great coaches, but the path was similar as well.
Snyder filled his roster with a lot of older JUCO guys.. and Cignetti fills his roster with older 2-3 star guys.
Both also had good QB play, which is the great equalizer in football from pee-wee football to the NFL.

crazy to see, was NIL the turning point where Yankees became dominate in football?
You think Indiana outspent Alabama, Michigan, etc in NIL?

I'm pulling for them. Just to simply F up the status quo. Tired of the same ol shite.

Clearly they also have some really good coaches, starting at the top.
Their offensive line is mauling people. Miami's did too.
It all starts up front and somehow the SEC has lost their way in the trenches.

The closest they had to anything like this was in 1998
That was a REALLY good team. They were beating A&M too in that game if I recall, just let it slip away. I truly believe they smoke Tennessee that year if they played, they were dynamic with Michael Bishop.

still a NC in 2 years from being a below average team is pretty impressive
Well except for what Cignetti is doing they will be printing money in Indiana from now on

That KSU team was the best single-season CFB team from 1996-2000. Absolutely elite in all facets and the coaching staff was basically a CFB brain trust. I'd take them straight-up over many national champions.
The way they lost against A&M was eerily reminiscent of Game 7 of the most recent World Series.

His teams have been mostly upperclassman. It’s something that’s not talked about enough these days.
Give me a roster full of 4th and 5th year 3* players over blue chip freshman and sophomores every year.
That’s how titles are won.

that was when Oklahoma found the power of bag men

It is very insane. I would guess it took.
Buy in from boosters
A great coaching staff
NIL money
Great portal additions and scouting high school players that were nit considered very high by recruiting services.
It is very, very impressive as all hell to watch though.

But it really isn’t NIL related at all..
I think it is NIL related in that the teams you have to play that would normally stockpile talent 3-4 deep can no longer do it, and teams that rely on buying blue chippers are getting players that don’t really play to develop but play for the $.
It lets programs who don’t rely on those types of players as much to build a cohesive, older, more cerebral group.
Someone mentioned it’s very much like the basketball one and done era when teams responded by building senior laden teams that outexecuted the young, more talented but less cerebral future NBA players.
I also think offenses and defenses today are more complex and sets up more of a coaching chess match. Players have to be smart to execute and diagnose plays; not just rely on athleticism.

I remember Stoops taking over a 6-6 Oklahoma team and winning the national championship the next year.. everyone thinking oh we just need the right coach we can do the same thing SMH
That team was loaded though. John Blake was a terrible head coach but legendary bagman. He was known by former players as "Black Santa" at UNC, which eventually got him a show cause.

It's insane & the Bill Snyder comps are probably the best ones out there.
I compare it to 2008 Bama, but Indiana has come from a lower level and reached a higher level than even that team

This...Indiana is older than everybody else..much older.
That is not sustainable. Hiscjmu guys will be gone along wiyh most of the staring 22..i think Indiana will be 9 win team next year..

Not to beat a dead horse, which I surely am, but Indiana INSTANTLY going from "worst program in college football history" to "juggernaut that puts every team they play six feet under" is one of, if not the most, unbelievable happening I've ever seen in college sports. Just incredible stuff, even in the NIL era.
Dynasty mode on Freshman level difficulty.

Seems to be a large part of it - cignetti and co being a very good at player analysis. They are a very well disciplined, and precise. Id be willing to bet a phrase like “run it again!” Is heard often in their practice. He seems like a very technical type guy - like every single player doing everything exactly right every single play - and practicing towards that.
They almost seem like the whole moneyball Oakland A’s deal.

Rumor is Mark Cuban wrote a big check for IU's NIL. 26 players transferred in. 20 5th year seniors on roster.
IU destroyed BAMA, no doubts, but year 3 will tell us more about Cignetti's staying power.

I’m just upset it couldn’t be my Mississippi state bulldogs to have fallen into such dumb luck.
