I hate what this is doing, and will lose interest more quickly as a result. I think NIL was going to happen, but the NCAA not putting out any guidance on it turned it into a booster spending spree. It'll ruin college sports in short order. Already has for some.

Fam, they never had integrity. It was all a charade.
NEVER...

Money being paid to semi-literate apes to play football has been going on well over 100 years.

Before you dismiss it, lot of those players have their lives absolutely destroyed by football - even the ones who made the money and appear to have it made.

I blame every ounce of this on on our own government turning traders on us decades ago. GH Bush, "A NWO". Rabbit hole, but it's true.

Going the way of NASCAR. Same disease...the rot of the $$$.
And OP is correct. The game those of us old enough to remember in the 70's-90's is gone, sadly.

True dat. I'll go but not the same feeling for the college game. Maybe when the season's underway, it will change but have doubts.

NFL players can't change teams every year. They are under contract. College Football is not like the NFL in that aspect. College teams should bring contracts into their game to prevent the massive team overhauls every year.

It will never be like it was before and it’s a shame the younger fans will never know how good it used to be; however, I’m not letting the changes rob me of my favorite sports passion. It’s kinda like sex, when it’s good it’s good and when it’s bad it’s still pretty damn good.

I see the college game becoming little more than NFL-Lite.

Ole Miss will never have to worry about this, so it’s your lucky day.

I agree for the most part. The schools are just as bad for the decline as well. The money grabs have been absurd

Stop worrying so much. Things are just fine. College kids are finally getting their cut. I don’t know but I guess there are many night watchman, making $12/hr eating salami sandwiches at two am who you rooted for 30 years ago.

Now with NIL, they will be on The golf course at 1pm eating juicy burgers and siping a cool brew. good for them.

As far as the game disappearing, don’t think so. Just getting bigger and more exposure.

Any fan I bet when watching a game on tv, is tied too it’s traditions. The players are hidden behind helmets and after a few years are largely forgotten The traditions continue.

I’m all for the players prospering!

Just don't get too attached to any one player on your team. He may be gone if you blink.

I have seen it a lot, just go to your grocery store and talk to your butcher or clerks

Starting with the 80's, the combination of Regan's spending and Wall Street's" (the movie) "Greed is Good" mantra the newly minted MBA chose short term profits over long term results. The USA (macro view) and College Sports (micro view) have fallen down since.

The amount of people who will start watching Millsaps or Rhodes or Carson Newman is water vapor in the pond of college football fans

If Georgia and Tennessee played in Knoxville with rosters that look like Millsaps or Rhodes, there would still be 100,000 fans in Neyland to watch it. College football is less about the individual player than any other sport.

But those programs are married to the money and the TV contracts like 30or so other programs around the country. That cycle is not getting broken voluntarily

College baseball is still somewhat pure. It'll be tainted like the rest of college sports, but at least it may last a little longer than college football and basketball.

I said taint.
