The Game I Enjoyed Is Disappearing

With apparently no limits so far on NIL and now the ability of any player to use the transfer portal every year without sitting out, I see the college game becoming little more than NFL-Lite.
I'm not crazy about the mega-conferences idea, either. And then, the NCAA has less and less integrity with every passing year. No such thing as a level-playing field for a long time now.

Fam, they never had integrity. It was all a charade.

The mega conferences are shite.
USC and UCLA to the big ten. How stupid is that?

Nothing make sense anymore. Who knows what the SEC will come up with regarding rivalries?

This. You saw it with the selective infractions enforcement.
All players were asking for over the years was just a little bit extra cash in the stipend.....but no....."mUh InTeGrItY oF tHe GaMe?!?!?!"

Renders the Rose Bowl even more meaningless now.

It started dying when the big TV contracts showed up. We’re just starting to smell it now.

Harder and harder to suspend disbelief.

Agreed. I really do fear for the future of college football.

Agree with OP. I'm becoming more and more indifferent to college football

Agreed, between NIL being pay for play, transfer portal being a limited free agency, and mega conferences, it is draining the sport of the passion that made college football so great.
Conferences and ESPN/FOX are too busy chasing the big matchups/tv deals to see that eventually when you change enough things about the sport, people will lose interest. I already feel myself getting more invested into baseball than football, which has never been the case with me in my life.

It is amazing that they are trying their hardest to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. People just cannot leave well enough alone.

I wonder if the long flights to games, like from USC and UCLA to Penn State won't affect game performance for the traveling team.
I know it won't be worse now that it has been before, but now those games will be a conference game, so a bad game will be more important than a non conference game before.

I like it.
It's free market.
18 year old kids are old enough to die in a war, but they used to be saddled with sitting a year if they transferred. "You dumbasses hired a Chad Morris, then bye, I'm not playing for this dipshit yall just hired, who never played college football and came in talking to us like we are second rate players"
Makes the university accountable.
Free market. Poor families make money. Good.

I posted this yesterday on another post

Im pushing 40. And college football has been my #1 thing (outside of family) i doubt ill ever quit watching. But the excitement factor has definitely been diminished over recent yrs. The playoffs were the first domino, i hate it, it sucks, it took away from bowl selection excitement, took away from regular season excitement, and further expansion will make it even worse. Now with NIL and transfers, its basically free agency. The kids will become bigger than the program, their already large egos will become bigger than life, because who can tell them what to do, theyl be making more than their coordinators. It is just a snowball heading for hell. For the first time in my life last yr, nfl was more enjoyable. Its always been a better product of football, but didnt bring that atmosphere of a college football game.. which also reminds me, all these (neutral site) games SUCK arse. I was browsing schedules for week 1 n saw lsu/fsu n was like dam thatl be fun. Then saw in superdome, immediately took excitement away. Game would be much more exciting in baton rouge. Who wants to play a game at a neutral site in the season n take away both home fan bases

Someone did a study on West Coast teams in the NFL that had to travel to the east coast. Definitely messes with them.

If you are over 40 you are no longer the target audience.

I agree 100%. Don’t care if Ags are benefitting. I don’t like where major college football has gone. Clusterfrick that seems to be shaking out worse than anyone could have imagined in my opinion. 5-6 super-funded NIL schools is a bad thing for the sport as a whole.
