Unless you have more information, we don’t know that someone called police to say they were being choked. A neighbor could’ve called the police for a wellness check or a disturbance.

If the call came from the fiancée, it’s going to make Beard’s employment much dicier.

He’s been charged with felony assault. Now this becomes Chris Beard VS State of Texas. There are a multitude of misdemeanor assault charges he could have been charged with, but they have hit him with a felony for a reason.

Imagine the police have a good bit of probable cause as well to have charged him that way.
That's exactly what I've been saying, too.
They DEFINITELY tried to protect The Guv's boy if they could. He got in a fight with his gf and strangled her, there's no other way around it. If he was screaming some form of "I'll kill you" with it it's OVER over.
This is much more likely than him choking his daughter, but, if THAT'S what it was he is fk'd.

The fiancee was found by cops walking around outside the house. I have to think they went on more than just her word when they arrested Beard for felony strangulation.

Technically speaking, this is true. Practically speaking, when the victim won’t cooperate with the prosecution, the case gets dismissed almost every time. That doesn’t mean it will happen in a timely manner and allow him to keep his job.

I was actually told the exact opposite thing by a few friends who work in criminal defense here in the Dallas Ft. Worth area. One of them started in the DAs office years back.

They said an uncooperative victims almost accelerate a trial given the history of victims being coerced to drop charges or not cooperate.

I have no idea. I am not a criminal attorney and maybe Austin works differently.

call was placed at ~2AM and he was arrested at ~4AM

APD probably had a lot to go on in for arresting him when they were on scene for two hours

He’s such a promising coach, it was going to take something bizarre like this for him to not win at Texas

They may try to accelerate a trial date if they aren’t sue the victim will remain cooperative, but unless there is video evidence or strong eye witness testimony, a DA is rarely going to push through with a trial without victim cooperation.

fyi, booked at 4am doesn’t equal on scene until 4am.

This is correct and actually happened to someone I know where their husband did not want to press charges.

Basically they have things in place to move forward if there is evidence that domestic violence did occur. So if there is a person that indeed has strangulation marks/evidence on their neck, Beard can still be prosecuted. Now if there’s no evidence and the victim is not being cooperative, there’s really no case.

Probably not in this case. They have her statements and witness statements almost certainly to charge him with a felony.

No defending it. If any of it is true, he has to go for good.

My guess is he'll be indefinitely suspended until more comes out. Regardless, I foresee a formal termination (unless they give him the chance to resign) inevitably soon, and I believe his last game coached as a Longhorn employee was on December 10

It's actually sad. I was kinda looking forward to what he would do with all that one and done talent. Hopefully, they 'll make one of the assistants a quick interim and go on. Texas is pretty talented this year.

Likely Rodney Terry. He's the only assistant involved with actual Xs and Os play calling with head coaching experience.

Who they attempt to hire after the season, I have no idea. Beard was the guy they wanted for years, so I'm sure this is a weird situation for the leaders of the athletic department as this circumstance is rather unprecedented for them.

Per the Austin Statesmen who has the victims statement.

He choked her, bit her, threw her off the bed and bruised her legs.

Someone forgot the safe word.
