Someone tell me of a #1 quarterback recruit out of high school not named Manning that turned into the #1 draft pick.

Yes. Not as fast or elusive as Manziel, but a more punishing runner.

He has a cannon for an arm, though.

Well, that's just absurd. They may say that now but when it comes down to brass tacks....

Brigewater was unheisman like against UK. tOSU Braxton is hurt. Mariotti maybe. I'm not buying Tahj.

A lot of their success can be attributed to Sumlin, so while there will be a dropoff at QB, they probably won't fall off the map.

I hear people say this, but Sumlin isn't out there controlling Manziel and Evans with an xbox controller. He's just along for the ride, and if he's smart he will get out while the getting's good because a massive drop-off is coming.

As long as CKS is there, they will be fine. He is recruiting at a high level and has a great offensive system.

If CKS leaves or the NFL, all bets are off. Although the A&M job has a lot of perks including having the state of TX to recruit and the SEC brand there. With UTx getting worse, the recruiting aspect gets easier.

Johnny is still beating him statistically, even after being suspended for a half against Rice. Plus, we played an SEC defense while Oregon played Tennessee.

The other Manning was the #1 QB in 2000 and was the first QB taken in 2004.

Vince Young was the #1 QB in 2002 and was the first QB taken in 2006.

Matt Stafford was the #1 QB in 2006 and the first QB taken in 2009.

Um. Yea he is. 900 yards rushing as a Senior.

BTW. Anyone ever heard of Case Keenum?

There is simply no way to replace what Johnny Football does for TAMU. I really can't recall seeing someone that shifty, with a good arm, good field awareness, etc.

He deserves all of the accolades that come his way.

But I also remember what teams like bama have been able to do to my Arkansas teams even with 5 and 4 star QBs(Mallett and Wilson) at the helm and another genius running the offense(Petrino.)

It is simply not a given that the TAMU offense will be as powerful once Manziel is gone.

And defense? I've yet to see TAMU field a defense under Sumlin. And they are recruiting no better for defense than Auburn was under Chiz-or Texas has for years for that matter- so I can't really understand why Ags seem to think that a return to their glory days of the 'Wrecking Crew' is a forgone conclusion.

I have no ax to grind against TAMU. I've always thought you guys were a good fit for the SEC.

But your MY OPINION is that your post-Manziel success is not assured.

Like any solid CFB program with the means. If they've got great coaching they'll have success. Throw in having special players at the sametime, good things will happen.

We did. First half of the Rice game. It was not good.

AU didn't just lose Cam that year. Fairley was also a once in a blue moon type DT. Not to mention there was a game smart LB in Josh Bynes that hasn't been there since. Then you add in the O-line that started pretty much 4 years together.

But other than that, I agree with your post.

We did. ... Rice ...It was not good.

Joeckel was 14 of19 for 190 yards and a touchdown. I don't see the "not good."

Defense was another issue.

We have seen Sumlin without Manziel. He guided Houston to a 13-1 season.
