So, your favorite team is signing 3-stars? Keep calm and trust the process.

You’ve got to see what they do in the portal also. You cannot judge a team on HS recruiting rankings anymore.

Yep.

And I have no idea if this applies to the current Bama class, but I also care more about which schools have offered a kid / are recruiting him hard over whether a kid is a low 4* v. a high 3* or whatever.

UGA has been signing more 3-stars than normal as of late. I'm wondering if they are recruiting projects out of high school with a plan to buy stars in the portal.

I think lots of schools are going to that model.

Arkansas is doing the same.

Signing all these 3 stars ranked in 500th range and making room for better players in the portal.

I love the mental gymnastics going on around here. I am an expert on 3 stars as that’s what my team has been signing for decades thanks to the hoarding by bagmen. A lot of NFL players were 3 stars and a lot of good college players are 3 stars. But generally, 3 stars get you midpack.

The sole reason the big dogs are now signing 3 stars is because NIL is allowing teams who never would bagmen 4 stars to now buy them up in droves which decreases supply. My team is just one example - for 2027 we have got “committed” 10 4 stars. That our most ever in one class. Normally we’d sign 3-4. So, just 1 team, GT, has taken 7 additional 4 star players out of the market. Now multiply that by other teams doing the same - Vandy, NC State, Indiana, Purdue, VT, etc, etc, and all these 4 stars would have been hoarded by teams paying under the table.

And I’ve said this before but NIL is going to hurt teams in locations that players don’t want to live. In the past if it was take 50K or nothing to live in some podunk town then of course the players would take the 50K. But now, if the money is the same, would a player rather live in Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville or Starkville, Oxford, Blacksburg, Columbia, Clemson, etc. It’s going to be fun watching it play out the next decade.

The kids highly ranked kids coming out of high school want big money. Places that are already loaded aren't going to pay these guys that kind of money to come sit on the bench. This is the way it's gonna be for a while IMO. I think you only really see these guys going to schools that have an immediate need at that position.

For example, LSU just basically gave up recruiting the #1 CB in the country simply because they didn't want to pay him to come in and sit for a year.

So crazy you keep focusing on 2027 , but 2026 we were the top SEC and #2 in CFB for recruiting rankings.

Bama will always out recruit 99% of teams.

RTR, in the old days I’d agree. But today, you can’t say that. Tuscaloosa is not a draw. Saban and winning was the draw. As long as any team pays the players will come as long as you have a competent coach. Look at Florida. Under Spurrier and Meyer, Gainesville was a magnet for top players. Then it stopped being a magnet. Same could happen to any location. It will be interesting to compare how the transition at Bama after Saban looks compared to when Kirby retires at UGA.

I would think NIL would help with the location issue since those other teams can't hoard all the better players now. I am sure teams have AI suggesting the best high school recruit/portal strategy for all the different positions now and for your available budget.

Your entire line of thinking is influenced by the fact that the team you root for is based in a big city.

Trust me... the "outpost" schools have a counterpoint to that. They say..."Why live in Atlanta and get overshadowed by the Falcons, Braves and Hawks... when you can live in Tuscaloosa and be the focus of all the attention." Places smaller that Tuscaloosa sell the "intimate... summer camp... type environment. Places like Austin sell the "cool, hip, trendy city that used to be a college town... so you get the best of both worlds.

Texas A&M sells the summer camp environment at a huge school ... "and the big city is right down the road"...

All schools have their angles that they sell regarding the city or town they are located in.

Oxford if they prioritize not having to dodge bullets. Atlanta is a shite hole. And Georgia tech is in the hood.
