Is 24/7 sports correct that Auburn only has one single 5 star recruit on their entire roster?
Ouch. No wonder you want to talk about Alabama recruiting so much.

Why do you guys always attack the messenger? It has nothing to do with my team who hasn’t been relevant in decades. All I’m saying is a lot of you are brainwashed because you actually it was anything other than bagman money to get high recruits to your school. It wasn’t. It was all about Benjamin’s and then coaching.
There is nothing special at all about any college town to draw young males there. I used Gainesville as an example because Spurrier and Meye were able to get droves of 5 and 4 stars to come there. It’s the same town now as it was then yet players don’t flock there. It’s about money and coaching,
NIL has given players way more options and the data is tarting to come in. A lot of teams are up in recruiting and a lot of teams are down. UGA is clearly the best situated school in the southeast right now because they pay, have a great coach, and are located right outside the Atlanta metro area which has more though school talent than any other southeast metro area. When Kirby retires it will be interesting to see what happens with their recruiting.
And you can throw all the shots you want but young black males freaking love Atlanta which is why we have our highest class in forever. And we had a thing called the Olympics which torn down the hood around GT. GT is located in an oasis these days. But keep throwing shots because it doesn’t matter because young males love Atlanta. The times are a changing. With an expanded playoff and everyone using NIL you are going to have new teams emerging. Your teams haven’t even made a Natty game in 3 years and you were waaaaay out in front for decades. The model has changed.

The truth is, you can’t trust the recruiting rankings any more
I don't think this is accurate.
The problem isn't that rankings are bad, it's that every team does roster construction a bit differently and has different levels of resources committed to building that roster.
I think you will see more teams going diamond hunting or "bargain bin shopping", but that doesn't mean the rankings are bad.
To me offer sheet is still one of the best ways to see how valued a recruit is. If there is a consensus among the pros that a guy is good he is probably good, 3 star 5 star or no star.

Some of our best players were 3*s (or worse).

ETA: I have a degree from UA. I donate money to the academic side of the university. I’ve sat through games as a student during the Fran era. I took my family to a game during the Shula era and had them dog cussed by a one toothed trailer park psycho outside of the stadium after the game. I actually have nothing against Alabama’s athletic program or its alumni. But I have a deep seeded hatred for your trailer park fans, most of whom reside here.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying. The number of stars a recruit has is just one measure used in recruiting. A lot of the posters on here seem to think that it is the only measure and it gives them something to whine and argue about. What they are really doing is showing how ignorant they are about the whole recruiting business, especially this time of the year.
As an example, Johnny Football was a three star recruit.

Says the guy whose team has successfully recruited six 5* players in this cycle so far and will likely rank in the Top 2 or 3 recruiting classes.
I get the point, but to say stars don't matter isn't completely correct. The portal is definitely a piece to the puzzle. Should be used to backfill pieces each year IMO. You may only get 1 or 2 years from portal acqisititions.

recruiting isn't nearly as important as it used to be. You can let other coaches develop players then buy them in the portal. I no longer even follow it.

And if Manziel as a 3 star was recruited to Bama or UGA thise fans would have gone nuts because “why are we going after 3 stars”.
As an expert on 3 star players, yes, there are a lot of good ones. There are also a lot of whiffs which kills your depth late in the season. I’ve seen it with my team year after year. Once injuries kick in by mid October we are replacing 3 stars with PWO’s just when we get to big games.
That’s why I love the portal - my team and most others similarly situated can now steal bench players from the big boys who become our starters so the 3 star now becomes the backup for later in the season. Coaches now have to spend a lot more time and brain power on roster construction and not just telling the bagmen what 22 players to go buy,
