guys who hit below the mendozza line. LSU had 23 sacrifice bunts and our opponents had 22. That's about 1 every 3 games, on average. Not really seeing what you're trying to show here. And that was the only way Jay tried to manufacture runs, and, for the most part, did that with guys he didn't trust to have productive at bats. We barely tried to steal (29 attempts all season as a team) and rarely ever called hit and runs. His offensive approach is a lot like Bertman's was, let your hitters hit. Mainieri is the one who got cute all the time with that.

Let me ask LSU fans this, what is expected this year and if you do get there, is it underachieving?
Omaha at a minimum with the team LSU has this year.
Last year LSU flat out had no pitching. Hilliard was the only staple in the rotation and wouldn't have been in the rotation on most LSU teams. He hadn't been in the rotation since 2018, and that was due to injuries on the staff. Johnson had to put together wholestaff games 2 out of every 3 on the weekend. We were basically screwed if we ever got in the losers bracket in postseason play.

1) Mike Bianco-
Lol no. He was on the verge of getting fired, barely got into the tournament and the team got hot.

4) Chris Lemonis- solid coach, took advantage of others building states program up and recruiting. Only is here because of the natty in 2021.
Lolol ok. He went to Omaha his first 2 seasons and won it all the 2nd time. And his team on the covid season was stacked and likely would have made Omaha we were 12-4 with series win over Oregon state and swept #4 Texas Tech.
He had a bad year last year but we lost a lot of talent and had some tough injuries

2022 LSU baseball was not a top 8 team. Our supposed Friday starter should have been a middle reliever but we had no front line guys that wee ready.
Don't understand why you keep saying LSU "underacheived" not many LSU fans had a lot of expectations for the season because the pitching was so slim.

I remember LSU’s problem last year was fielding. Let’s see how much they improve. Hitting wasn’t a problem.
Pitching was by far the biggest issue, we didnt have a weekend rotation.
Our Friday night guy ended up being a covid senior right hander who generally topped out around 87-88 but had a good curveball he threw mostly
The difference in pitching this year will be astronomically different with the guys we have now.
And it's ridiculous from the OP to suggest we "underachieved" last year. It was nowhere close to being a good team, there some serious holes. Almost making it out a regional on the road was an accomplishment with the pitching and poor defense we had.

I think that schlossnagle is probably one of the top coaches in all of college baseball. Van horn’s consistency is hard to overlook as well. I have a hard time saying bianco is 1 here. Probably 3rd.

Yea I wish the covid year played out as well, probably win it all that year. 1 loss.
Lemonis won with other talent, first year it got to him he tanked. He is at 4, can't expect him to be higher than that with the lack of seasons to show otherwise.

Van Horn and Schloss would definitely be 1-2 in the West for me
Bianco is at best 3rd as most have pointed out he was on the hot seat at Ole Miss before his postseason run he had. The fanbase was already looking to the next guy they would get when they were sitting at 7-14 in conference play then they finished on a run with a 14-16 5th place finish in the West...then the historic postseason run after.
Lemonis obviously has a title to his name with 2 CWS appearances in 3 years at MSU so cant argue lower than 4th for him honestly even with the disaster that was last season.
Jay Johnson had 2 CWS in 5 seasons at Arizona which it's not the Arizona people think of from way back. Arizona only made the CWS once in the previous 11 years to Jay Johnson taking over there in 2016. They didnt even make the NCAAT the 3 years prior to him taking over there.
1 of those CWS he got all the way to the final which is notable. I think he definitely stands to rise on the list coming up with what he's built at LSU already. People also dont realize I think he's only 45 so not an old guy, still pretty young in his career. Right now I dont think 5 is unreasonable for him considering the accomplishments of those around him in the SECW.

Lemonis is behind Bianco since his title has an asterisk. NC State never got a fair shake.

Van Horn is currently number 25 in all time wins and number four among active coaches.
At the age of 62, he probably has another 10-15 years left in him.

A little bit optimistic there for a guy who is 62 and been a head coach in college for going on his 35th year in a row now
Some guys coach into their 70s but not many are built that way.

I don't know, but their next best chance will probably be in '24 with the huge recruiting class and key returnees and any possible impact tranfers to add.
