my guess is they will remove the P5 OOC game requirement.
I hope not. They need to eliminate the FCS game!

Think money drives the 8 vs 9 game conference schedule. How much more in tv money can they get for that extra conference game?

USC, UTn/Vandy and Mizzou would be my choice for UK.

Not sure, one would think they should get a vote but someone posted they can not vote until they are members.

So let’s give this a shot, shall we? We guessed on permanent opponents while (1) considering the primary and secondary rivalries; (2) using geography; and (3) creating as much equity as possible (remember, top half teams get two from their own and one from the bottom half; bottom half teams get two from their own and one from the top half):
Tennessee: Vanderbilt; Alabama; South Carolina
Kentucky: Mississippi State; Arkansas; Georgia
With the exception of 1943 and 1917 (of course), Tennessee and Kentucky have played every year since 1906.
Tennessee and South Carolina played each other 10 times between 1902 and 1992.
Kentucky has played Arkansas a total of 8 times in the history of their program.
But sure...this looks a lot better than UT/UK playing each other.

We should've been playing 9 games already, let alone before we expand to 16 teams.

Some of us schedule real OOC games.

Football is already dying
I should bookmark this and bring it up when LSU plays at USC in 2024. College football is changing, yes. Much of which I’m not happy about. But it’s definitely not dying. Just evolving. When the pigskin was damaged and we didn’t have a replacement, we made do and used unclaimed puppies for handoffs and forward passes. We didn’t let mere obstacles stop us on field goals, punts and kickoffs because those gridiron dogs were tough brutes. They had resolve. We need more of that junkyard puppy mentally today. Buncha AKC chihuahuas up in here.

No more “LSU has only played UGA once in the regular season since 2013.” Which is true.
Thank you. I don't care what the ultimate format ends up being as long as the vast majority of traditional rivalries are preserved and we actually play all the other teams in the conference every few years. It's absurd that we only face certain conferences teams once a decade.
A&M plays Clemson more often than Kentucky or Tennessee. That's not how conferences are supposed to work.

If Auburn and UGA don’t play every year, then this isn’t SEC football anymore.
And while we are at it, recalibrate the home years for the series to pre-2012 expansion so that the game can be moved back to November. 80 degree DSOR isn’t right. UGA played at Auburn in 2012 and 2013 and it screwed up Auburns schedule by making them end the season @ UGA and @ Alabama every other year. Now is a good opportunity to correct it, with UGA up and Auburn down, it may not matter where the games are played for the next two or three years.

quote:The SEC should mandate that every team play an P5 conference rival home-and-home.
I feel like those who wouldn’t be in favor of 9 games are teams that play an out of conference rival each year.
I posted this possible solution in another scheduling thread a while back:
quote:
Here's a shot at assigning permanent P5 opponents to those SEC schools currently without them, loosely based on the historic number of games played since 1950 (shown in parentheses):
Bama: Penn State (15)
Arky: Baylor (42)
AU: Miami (9)
LSU: Notre Dame (12)
MSU: NC State (4)
Mizzou: Kansas (62)
Ole Kiff: Houston (18)
UTee: UCLA (15)
TAMU: Nebraska (15)
Vandy: Wake Forest (16)
MSU was the most difficult to come up with a logical match, since so many of their historic P5 opponents are already claimed by other SEC schools. However, if the Big12 includes Memphis in their rumored next round of expansion, they would be a logical choice (or pair Memphis with Ole Miss and assign Houston to MSU).

1 rival is easy and straight forward. There are only two real options.
Alabama and Auburn
Florida and Georgia
Oklahoma and Texas
Ole Miss and Miss State
LSU and Texas A&M
Kentucky and Tennessee
Arkansas and Missouri
South Carolina and Vanderbilt
-or-
Alabama and Auburn
Florida and Georgia
Oklahoma and Texas
Ole Miss and Miss State
LSU and Texas A&M
Tennessee and Vanderbilt
Arkansas and Missouri
Kentucky and South Carolina
3 rivals is much murkier, and way more likely for schools and the conference to do whacky things that seem to make little sense. My best fit prediction would be...
Alabama -> Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
Arkansas-> Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas
Auburn-> Alabama, Florida, Georgia
Florida-> Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina
Georgia->Auburn, Florida, South Carolina
Kentucky-> Miss State, South Carolina, Tennessee
LSU-> Ole Miss, Miss State, Texas A&M
Oklahoma-> Arkansas, Missouri, Texas
Ole Miss-> LSU, Miss State, Vanderbilt
Missouri-> Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M
Miss State-> Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss
South Carolina-> Florida, Georgia, Kentucky
Tennessee-> Alabama, Kentucky, Vanderbilt
Texas-> Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M
Texas A&M-> LSU, Missouri, Texas
Vanderbilt-> Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee

I admit I'm not deeply versed in SEC lore/rivalries, but I've never heard Kentucky fans mention any of those schools specifically, and I do not think Kentucky would be high on the list of annual games for Georgia or Florida.

In the one rival scenario, these four are locks with each school likely to claim that the other is their most important game.
Alabama and Auburn
Florida and Georgia
Oklahoma and Texas
Ole Miss and Miss State
LSU and Texas A&M are likely to be each other's "next best available".
Tennessee likely gets Kentucky or Vanderbilt whichever they view as a more important game.
Arkansas and Missouri likely fall into each other's lap as best available down each list. Arkansas could go to LSU, but that makes the games worse since Arkansas - Missouri makes more sense than Texas A&M - Missouri. South Carolina basically gets paired as a red-headed step child with whichever of Kentucky or Vandy after Tennessee picks.

OU and Tex will play anally, annually.
The rest of their schedule is up to the rest of us.
Oklahoma and Texas presidents will not have a vote on this scheduling decision.
Only the 14 current members vote.

Most fans don't want to visit the shite hole that is College Station either. So the feeling is quite mutual.
