I'd be interested to know where you read that, because that's not what I'm seeing. CBS has been telling Wall Street analysts that they are going to get an extension of their deal with the SEC.

It's been a while, so I could definitely be wrong. It sounds like you are in tune with the situation.

That's good to hear, too.

NBC has been hamstrung by ND. They only have one game per week and it always features just one team. While CBS only has one game, it’s the biggest draw for an entire conference.

I could easily see NBC wanting more than just 2 football games per week

If Notre Dame would agree to a noon, Eastern Time (or even 12:30) kickoff, a ND-SEC doubleheader on seven or eight Saturdays, and an SEC game of the week for the other 5 or 6 Saturdays, would make NBC a real player in college football. However, if NBC retains the Premier League, they may not be that interested due to the conflicts in the Fall (but they are going to have competition for that deal, so that's not a given).

Ugh, the thought of replacing the CBS song with some country singer 'song of the week' crap would make me want to vomit. But I know it is coming. I would hope the SEC would keep its main game off a streaming service. Oh well, at some point us older generation were saying the same thing about Keith Jackson and ABC. Change is inevitable.

Streaming services have been gearing up to trying and get into the big money of professional/college sports.

I watch all of my CFB through either Hulu Live or the ESPN App. The only issue I have is the close to minute delay.... it makes following twitter and watching the game difficult.

That's the one issue I have with these streaming services. I do like having the ability to switch over to the old fashioned antenna and watch CBS or ABC.

So with all that said, what do you want the SEC to do when the CBS deal runs out?

I wish the SEC would actually hand over more to CBS.... I'd love to see a 2:30 CT game and a 7:00 CT prime time game every single week. Let them pick the two best games and have ESPN or the SEC Network air everything else.

Game of the Week: 7:00 PM CT on CBS
2nd Best Game: 2:30 PM CT on CBS
3rd Best Game: 11:00 AM CT on ESPN
4th Best Game: 5:00 PM CT on SEC Network
5th Best Game: 8:00 PM CT on SEC Network

Let all other games kick at 2:30 or 6:00 on SEC Alternate.... let the schools decide when they want to kick off for all those other games since no one but their fans are going to be watching. If LSU wants to kick at night and its a nothing game... let them. If Mizzou or Kentucky want to kick earlier in the day, let them do that.

Honest question, would the premier league really bring in more money than SEC football prime matchups, or is it that they have invested so much into the premier league to not want to back page it?

Because you’re right, a ND game followed by one or two big time SEC matchups would quite literally print money for that station.

If CBS ponies up close to $300 million annually I'm fine with them keeping the
contract...it's currently $55 million.

I think it's still a good idea to have the
games on a OTA network. It gives the SEC great exposure and it was the main reason
Slive cut the deal in the 1st place.

Id also move the games to 4:30 so we can move the nooners to 1:00.

ComcastNBC is rumored to be one of the networks that wants to get more involved with CFB and has an eye on the SEC

How would that affect Notre Dame. Would they finally drop that deal with them?

I don’t know why they would. ND pays for itself many times over while adding the SEC would just increase profits

There is going to be a big fight among the networks for the next Premier League deal. NBC does well with it--and, it's hugely important for their cable network. If NBC loses that fight, it will give them more money to bid for college football.

I met a couple one time while on vacation from Canada. The guy was OBSESSED with SEC football despite having zero connections to any school. He says he watches the CBS game religiously each Saturday.... from Toronto. That's pretty cool.

Screw all the nooner games and why in the world do you wanna cut ESPN down to one game? It goes into far more households than the SECN

I know it’s coming but a small piece of me will die when SEC on CBS is no longer a thing

There's nothing better than hearing the opening cords of that theme song and seeing the camera slowly zoom down on the band marching onto the field

For whatever reason, my Spectrum cable package does not include this one. Also sucks when you have other obligation and need to record the beginning of the game but they ended up cutting part of the 1st quarter.

Agreed. It's 2019 but a lot of folks still get their TV for free OTA or have basic cable. I would bet a higher percentage in SEC country than the rest of America. My mother-in-law uses rabbit ears because she's retired and cheap.

Honestly, I really enjoy the way CBS presents the game. They mic up the crowd and band really well. They truly make it feel like the game is the biggest thing going. Gary isn't that bad. Uncle Verne is gone.

Just negotiate shorter contracts so this doesn’t happen again.
