When and why would a Bama fan EVER be "jelly" of UGA??

But there was and will be again when the excitement of getting a competent coach wears off. The problems are multiple. In the SEC you have sorry out of conference games. As Saban says go to a 9 game SEC schedule and all others against a p5 team. Then you have costs which are a result of the arms race in facilities. And finally television. We love going to a Wild Wing type hangout on Sat and drinking beer with family, friends are watching the games. And the Alabama effect. Far too many games are mismatches.

Ummm...no it's not

playoff ratings down

Regular season ratings down

SI - college ratings down

Very few on this board want to acknowledge it but college football is in trouble. The canary in the coal mine is chirping like a motherfricker.

Because UGA is a much, much better academic institution. I know Bama’s better in football, but that’s not why universities were started and how they are judged, outside the state of Alabama.

As soon as they decided to have the national championship game on the second Monday in January, they admitted that they don't give a shite about attendance.

It's becoming over commercialized. Too expensive. Too much exposure

Could limit rosters to 50 players.

That would be a little too drastic for me.. LOL!

I think 65 would work. And you can only sign 15.

Looking at 247 now. There would be 40 player freed up right now just from the top 10. Most being top 3 stars. We would have to drop a 4 star. BUT you have a ton of non committed player right now.

The number 1 player in the nation has not decided. Bama would have to drop a second player.

#4 has yet to decide.. a Bama lean. That would be a 3rd 4 star dropped.

8 Five stars have yet to commit.
5 Four stars in the top 50 have not.
21 Four stars in the top 100

There are 320 Four star recruits.

It would create better competition. Games will be more exciting and actual coaching becomes a larger part of the process. Innovation rises and keeps things moving forward

Another thing that makes me cringe is the ridiculous penalties. Might as well put two streamers on the quarterbacks belt. Targeting ejections change games every week.

And the 4 minute commercial breaks kill the atmosphere in any stadium. Yeah- frick you CBS (but they arent alone)

1. Lower ticket prices
2. Get rid of TV timeouts
3. Improvements to stadiums

Yep it is. In relationship of where we were before the SEC Network and more, Either you attended the game or you listened it due to black out.

Now per one of your links:

quote:

Fox was the one outlier, with record-high viewership thanks to its new Big Ten deal. Karp said ratings were not available for conference channels like SEC Network, Big Ten Network and Pac-12 Network.

CBS's SEC package was the most-viewed individual package for the ninth straight CFB season.

Anything "ESPN" was being hammered for their political crap.

But my point is that CFB, in general, viewership is up from the days prior to SEC network and ESPN3

Well, it's gotten too expensive. The license money, then buying the tickets. You've dropped a couple grand. Parking is about 30 bucks even if u park a mile from the stadium. Food, etc. Is outrageous.

Too many tv games. Every fricking game is televised. There used to be one game on Saturday and then one maybe Saturday night. You had to go to the games to see them.

Stadiums too big. The state of Alabama has a 101k and an 87k....on the campuses. That's too many seats in one state. Demand is not as great as for a 70k seat stadium.

Comfort. As I get older, frick the heat.

There are a lot more options vying for people's attention than there were just 10 years ago, plus ticket prices are insane.

I rarely ever pay for tickets to a game, and I used to be a die-hard. Granted, my team sucks arse the past several years, but even when they are competitive, it just isn't a high priority for me.

My Boomer dad still goes to every home game. Once they are all too old to go, attendance will drop sharply.

Football also has a white flight problem. In 2000 51% of college players were white. Now it’s down to 37%. This is due to more white parents not wanting their kids to play football.

This is a big reason I have stopped going.

Plus the endless tv timeouts.

Surprised no one has mentioned the annoying piped in stadium music. Always rap crap. Every spare second has to have noise.

Now get off my lawn.

It is time for us all to come to grips with the fact that the stadium crowd is mainly only important now to provide a backdrop for the TV broadcast.

Here's my problem with going to a game:

You know way less about what's going on in the game by attending then if you were plopped on your couch watching it on tv.

You know nothing of what is going on in the rest of the college football world either. It's like a wasted Saturday.

So, I can save $$$, watch a more entertaining product of my game on TV and watch other games at the push of a button. Its a no brainer compared to paying $2,000-$2,500 for a weekend in Oxford all in.

Sports attendance is dropping overall. It's the pricing of tickets and the fact people can stay home and watch on a 100" television and see a zit on a players face with no problem.
