May I ask what you're doing/where you're going that a family of 4 costs $1K for a fb game?

Did you know that there is a waiting list of 30K people waiting for season tickets to Bama football?

Did you know to stay on that list, you have to pay admin fees every year. You pay $25 to be on that list. We bring in $750,000 per year JUST for that.

Stay with me here ok.... Because it's not first come first serve basis on that list. You get graded. The better your grade, the higher up the ladder you climb. If I want to increase my standing, improve my position on the TIDE PRIDE Football waiting list, I have to pay. I get 3 points per $100 bucks I pay.

There is even a tiebreaker just in case. And that is just for Tide Pride. Those are usually in the East Upper Deck, Century Club locations and all of that is prior to your REAL fees.... which is before your actual tickets.

Now the Crimson Foundation is different. A seat there will require you to give a Capital gift of 10k payable up to 5 years, then 35K for Tide Pride... THAT'S PER SEAT.

NOW.. What nobody is saying is that for the FIRST TIME IN A DECADE OR MORE... We had to offer season tickets to the general public for the South Upper Deck.

Cost? $400 plus a donation of $160 to Tide Pride. Per seat. That is as cheap as you will EVER get season tickets to Bama.

That is $2,240 for a family of 4. That means before he ever leaves his house for CRAPPY arse SEATS, he has spent 280 every game.

That's before a Jacked up Hotel price (all raise their rates during games). That's before jacked up concessions, gas, and eating out.

Who doesn't want to spend enough money to buy a used car to sit in the nosebleed section where you can barely the see the game after all?

You are right sir.

How many seats in conference are going unsold? 5%? What unsold rate should a business take action?

It's bad enough that we, for the first time ever, had to open up a section to the general public at a reduced rate.

Here it is for you:

quote:

The University made a limited number of full season, ticket packages available to the general public. The cost of each seat is $395, plus $160 Tide Pride fee. All available seats are the South Upper Deck.

They didn't do this out of the kindness of their heart...We couldn't fill the seats via season ticket holder.

quote:

While this is good news for Alabama football fans who have not had a previous chance to buy season tickets, it bodes reasons for concern. New season ticket buyers will not have an automatic renewal opportunity. A call to the Tide Pride office can explain that decision and what it means for season ticket purchases in subsequent seasons.

We hope there is a rebound and won't have to do it again this cheap... but they know the reality:

quote:

Of greater concern is the reality of declining, national, college football attendance trends having reached Tuscaloosa. There are many reasons. Parking, traffic, lack of reasonably priced hotels (or rooms at any price) discourage regular attendance by out-of-town fans. Many out-of-town Tide Pride members attend only two or three games per year. Selling the extra tickets was once easy. In today’s environment, many of the extra tickets are transferred to others through Tide Pride or given away to family and friends. Games are great fun inside the stadium. Concessions and restrooms do not match that great experience. And it is too pricey, even with just a day trip, for many people.

When Bama is having a in issue selling out.... You know damn well it's worse on teams that don't compete for playoffs.

Not really. In the past you had to go up to the scalpers and bargain for a ticket. Some of them would eat the ticket instead of lowering the price. It created demand. Stubhub takes that totally away and is putting the scalpers out of business. Now schools will scan the ticket bought off Stubhub off your iphone. My guess is there are more DIFFERENT fans attending games each year than in the past.

We don't. We just accept it.

Football is a dying sport. 20 years from now it'll be an unrecognizable shell of it's former glory, 30 years from now it may be gone all together.

Basketball will be the new king.

The sport of the future is New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Most entertaining and competitive sport I’ve ever seen.

It will soon make the NFL obsolete and then college football.

Most schools have never made money off football, so there is no change for anyone but most P5 schools.

It has more to do with the costs rising to keep a program afloat. Instead of playing accounting gymnastics it will kill the program.

Bingo! Many fans of other teams must believe the cheating bull shite to have desperately needed validation for not being able to beat them. Those pitiful souls are reaching for anything to use as an excuse, whereas strong minded individuals admit their team's inferiority, BUT support their team in any reasonable endeavor to raise the quality to be able to evenly compete with teams like Alabama...it's just a difference in people's character.

If that really makes you feel superior! Whatever!

Ok! I have to break it down! Geesh!
1. Bulldog club donation $1,600 for decent seats divided by six games $266
2. 4 tickets at a average cost of $60.00 per $240
3. Hotel at $240 per night with two night minimum $480
4. 2.5hr drive $80 gas
5. Food $100 a day for 4 cheap for 2days $200
I come up with $1,266 THATS what I’m doing and where I’m going!

Its a no brainer compared to paying $2,000-$2,500 for a weekend in Oxford all in.

Do you have, like, twelve kids or something?

You can get tickets to the Iron Bowl or Bama-LSU for $300 apiece for a pair, drop another $200 for a decent hotel in Birmingham for two nights if you want, throw in $100 for gas and parking, another $300 for food and drinks for two. You're still at $1,000. For the Iron Bowl. And you can go to any other SEC game in Tuscaloosa for half that or less.

You can get decent sideline tickets to an SEC game in Oxford for $50 each.

There's a little exaggeration here.

1. There are lower Tide Pride levels. The Extra Point club...lower level north endzone...is only $110 a seat.

2. Bettering your seats doesn't necessarily require forking over more cash. During that sale of extra seats you mentioned, I called them to check it out. I already had 3 seats at the top of U4-CC. They said if I wanted to up my allotment to four, I could move two sections over to U4-EE and three rows lower. No extra donation necessary other than the fee for that extra seat. I only have 261 points, and my first year in Tide Pride was 2006. I've never made any additional donations other than my seat fee.

3. If you want to spend two nights in a hotel, you don't have to pay "jacked up prices" if you're willing to stay in Birmingham. You can book two nights at the Comfort Inn on Summitt Parkway right now...a perfectly decent hotel...for the LSU game weekend for $198 total, including taxes, for two nights. Less than $100 a night.

This is not true AT ALL. Those seats you are referring to, at the top of sections SS, previously were part of the visiting team allotment. That allotment was decreased this year, resulting in the additional seats. This was not just what they told me when I called; you can also verify this by looking at the seating chart. In addition, people buying those season tickets ARE NOT entitled to them beyond this year. It was a one year only sale.

Look, we get that you don't want to spend market prices to go to a game. You don't help your case though by posting shite that just isn't true. You make it sound like those seats are available because massive numbers of people have bailed out. It's pure nonsense..

Stop making 100k + stadiums.

Long term, the bigger the stadium, the more people, the crazier the atmosphere

The problem with shrinking and catering to the wealthy is that over time, general appeal dies. Long term this kills the sport.

120,000 would show up for a polo match, now you are doing good if you get 120

Boxing was the same way, 10,000 dollar seats starting and small crowds just in Vegas with folks you have not followed form your state or region.

Horse racing is headed that way fast. Sport was built on the 2 dollar bettor and the US Treasury obliged by printing a 2 dollar bill in wide circulation.

Greed kills, and any time your shrink the fan base to just the uber wealthy the sure it can be said that you are killing the long term demand for the sport. If small venues and excessive luxury is the future then football is already dying as a viable long term sport.

Now is $1,200 worth the headache and the game experience?

For most, evidently not...... 7 out of 8 years... DECLINE in attendance.

And brother... We had to open the South to anybody willing to buy! So it has reached us too.
