SEC coach on Trinidad Chambliss: Lane Kiffin gets too much credit for development

I think this is probably true to some extent, coaches seem to get too much credit when a player performs well and too much blame when one doesn't.

I think Kiffin also designs an offense that allows QBs to make quick, effective decisions. Probably credit to both. This wasn't Kiffin's only success developing a QB at Ole Miss either. Trinidad has a ton of natural ability and his offense this year won't change drastically, so he'll have a good year.
I think he's a good kid, rooting for him outside of the LSU game.

Lane still doesn't get enough credit for Chambliss.
Show me the other schools wanting him out of Ferris State and could use him to reach the playoff game.

Lane had Chambliss all of 6 months so this is definitely true. Chambliss was good the first moment he got in the game.
What Lane/Charlie should get credit for is building comfortable gameplans for him, especially in September. Obviously the lightning release, pocket presence, athleticism, and moxie were already there.

I would have never knew who Chambliss was if it wasn't for Lane. We also don't know if Lane changed or added to Chambliss's game.

Lane also started Austin Simmons over him. I think Lane was as surprised by how much of a gamer he was as anyone else was. If Simmons doesn't get hurt, Ole Miss probably goes like 8-4.

neither of these things have anything to do with what the OP is saying. Nobody said "lane shouldn't get any credit for bringing chambliss into the public consiousness". Sure lane deserves every single bit of credit for taking a flyer on a lesser known guy from a lower level.
What IS being said is that lane didn't perform some miracle by turning him from some two-bit scrub into a heisman contender. Chambliss was already friggin good, people jsut didn't know it yet.

You might not have known who Chambliss was if Austin Simmons never got hurt either.
Lane didn't even know who Chambliss was because he didn't pick him as his starter until he more or less had to.

Funnily enough the reason Simmons got hurt at Kentucky was because Lane and Charlie kept running him even after he had already taken a beating

You have to love this board. It's gone from Lane is a QB whisperer while at Bama and Ole Miss, to Lane had nothing to do with his QB's development after he took the LSU job.

Its somewhere in between.
I would have liked him at UF for the spark to the program he would have been, not because I think he is some X's and O's genius necessarily. So much of college sports success is just being good at marketing to high schoolers, after all.
But after the way Lane's split with OM happened and how energized UF is with Sumrall I'm happy how it played out how it did in hindsight.
