Theo is getting all of the famous lefties on lately. First Mamdani and now Saban.

Think of the green knight poem as a “how to” guide for how chivalrous knights to behave.

Well our modern definition of chivalry wasn't really the one used back in the days of actual knights and legends. Its changed a lot over the years actually and could mean a lot of different and sometimes contradictory things.... how we define it (essentially virtuous and duty-bound), it could mean that a man was just a good soldier, or a good horseman, or loyal to his woman, or even that he was a bit of a womanizer. The original poem was more about a man's honor or his word, his character when people aren't looking, than it was "chivalry" as we know it.

The movie kind of poo-poos the point the poem tried to make. But granted to make a movie out of it you do have to add some material because basically the poem goes "Green Knight shows up, Gawain takes a little off the top, then its a year later and he is at the lord's estate" with nothing at all there about the journey. Within the confines of what the movie is trying to do it does make sense that Gawain isn't honorable though...Gawain in the original story was already a famous knight by that point I believe, in this one he is using The Green Knight as kind of his "launchpad" for his career and he is very much not "knightly" at that point but becomes so at the end.
I will say, I'm workshopping some short stories that I plan to write and use AI to see if that premise has been done by someone before in any high profile way that I'm not aware of. Sometimes it'll give me unsolicited feedback on the idea and even suggestions about plot points and some of it is pretty good.

I don't think its a stretch at all to say AI will be not only used for writing soon, it'll actually be good at it.

It can already consume multiple time stamped files together so it can learn how to do things like CAD. You give it a CAD file, you give it a file showing keystrokes and clicks that were made during the process, you give it a txt file of which functions in the program were used, then you give it a video of the process itself and it can learn how to use CAD. Studios will use that same premise and feed movies and scripts into models they create for that purpose and it'll put out decent stuff. Bare minimum it will be used for initial drafts that actual writers go back and edit.

He didn’t direct the original one, which honestly is probably why it’s such a classic. Denis gave it a huge visual style bump that I don’t think he can really bring to the table and according to the production into, he spent a lot of time cutting out the fat of the original Sicario script. The original script was a lot more tell than show and included a lot of voice over monologues

I feel like Sheridan's stuff gets worse the more leash you give him. And by 'leash' I don't necessarily mean creative control. He is incredible on the initial ideas for stories, characters, settings, etc but when it comes to expanding those with any depth the results are very mixed.

I would guess Jurassic Park by a healthy margin.

Maybe a hot take, Shawshank is an incredible movie but its a bit overrated. It certainly shouldn't be the top rated movie on IMDB.

He said for driving around town. If you never drive beyond the range of a single charge, ICE has functionally zero advantages over an EV and tons of drawbacks.

Yeah I think we are at the point with EVs where if you are in a 2 vehicle household it is financially inefficient for one of them not to be an EV that is used for your local trips.

There has always been a lot of progressive types in Texas.

Texas has never been as conservative as people want to beleive and its not because of hispanics.

Don't read this as an argument for illegal immigration because I think it should be at 0 permanently, but if you're going to have a huge influx of people coming into your country we are lucky that the vast majority come from a population that is overwhelmingly Christian/Catholic and who value the institution of the family. If we had a bunch of Muslim countries to the south of us we would be completed fricked.

As far as Texas goes, Austin and other large cities have been getting an influx of people for years now and they aren't what you think of when we imagine a typical Texan. Would not surprise me at all if these polls turn out to be accurate and Talarico wins.

And the cost will likely go down.

They have added the equivalent of Germany's entire powergrid to their generation capabilities every year for several years now, and the share of renewables of total power generation continues to climb.

Kennedy’s tenure at Lucasfilm saw its moments of fan outrage in certain corners (the response to The Acolyte was particularly vicious) and praise (Andor), with Kennedy the face of the brand during both its peaks and valleys.

Even though I have genuinely enjoyed some of the new SW content, I don't think the peaks were all that high personally, and certainly not worth the lows
Hope he doesn't have a brother named Nick
I'm taking this as a "would you allow legal abortion if the death penalty were enforced within 24 hours" hypothetical.

No, abortion is a moral stain on our current era and should be eradicated. We should execute way more criminals than we do now, but its not a moral stain on society if they receive life in prison vs death.

That's it. Everything above that you are attempting to be patronizing about is something I said to you first.

I don't think I'm attempting, I'm pretty good at it when people don't know what they are talking about.

quote:

We only differ in that Trump is (quite obviously) not a conservative, yet you insist that he is.

Another weird comment since my "in theory and marketing material" comment (which you didn't understand, shocker there) strongly implies that I don't think he is all that conservative, much less 'insist that he is".

I have to give flowers to Mizzou fans. I read a story where some of y'all recently visited some terminally ill kids at a children's hospital.

"I'll never forget the sad, defeated look in their eyes" said the kids of the Mizzou fans.

Conservatives believe the government should protect the environment, but subsequently fight against every attempt by the government to protect the environment while refusing to offer any alternatives. Is that the claim?

Ron DeSantis has allocated about $9B toward Everglades restoration and water quality efforts. The state has tried to do a lot more in terms of things like aquifer recharge projects that voters didn't want.

Liberals see things like Trump reclassifying certain federal lands so they would be eligible for drilling but have no clue in terms of just how much land the BLM controls and how dogshit a lot of that land is. They portray conservatives as cartoonishly evil robber barons who are going to blow up Yosemite to mine for rare earths or something and that's just not the case.

America has more trees today than we had 100 years ago and most of the forested land in the US is controlled by conservative governance, often at the city, county, and state level.

The issue on the environmental rhetoric isn't that conservatives are lining up with bulldozers to clear off any beautiful spaces that remain in the country, its that liberals can't handle not getting their way and whining that environmental law isn't exactly the way they envision it because they aren't serious actors.
quote:

That's because you're fixated on speaking for people instead of speaking for conservatism itself.

Weird since my point was clearly and specifically that no one can speak for the group we were discussing :rotflmao:

The OP asked a question about why you don't hear about X from conservatives. I said its because its not like we have some spokesperson.

Hope that can get you caught up with what was actually going on here before you come back with another incoherent rant. What an extremely simplistic and outright ignorant view on conservatism.

quote:

I guess you're kind of a moron, then. What does being president have to do with speaking for conservatives? Jimmy Carter was a "literal president." Joe Biden. Obama. Anybody who thinks any of those guys needs to be speaking for all conservatives because they were "literal presidents" is stupid.

:rotflmao:

None of those guys you laid out were conservatives. Trump, at least in theory and marketing material, is.

I guess I'll have to baby step you through any point I make since you seem to lack much, if any, cognitive function to deduce that being a president alone doesn't make you qualified to speak for conservatives, but being a conservative president in theory would be the spokesman for the ideology in terms of anyone with any actual power. And again, I said I don't think even a conservative president can do that.
I've seen some clips of who I assume are film influencers who got to see like 20 minutes of the movie. They were saying it looks like it will be very scary and seemed pumped about it. They saw some kind of transformation but not like THE transformation scene, and said even the one they saw was intense.
I want to like it because she seems like a really cool person with a passion for stuff like this, but unfortunately it just looks very bad.
