I doubt it moves. It looks like renovations are coming including making the whole stadium chairback seating.

On a totally unrelated note, I vote that the Florida Gators immediately change their name to the Blue Wahoos.

I'm sure there is a large contingent of A&M fans ready to go to Pensacola for memorial day weekend already...

Just give "Pensacola memorial day weekend" a quick Google.

why not move it someplace with an actual airport. stop trying to make it a pain in the arse to get to. Dallas, Nashville, Atlanta should be the only options

LOL, Pensacola has an International Airport.

I was living in Pensacola when the Air Florida ?? 727 belly flopped into Escambia Bay a few miles short of the runway.

"National Airlines Flight 193 crash landed in Escambia Bay on the night of May 8, 1978, the plane had 58 people onboard."

55 saved / 3 drowned. A tugboat owner rescued the 55 that survived.

PNS is a very convenient airport and very easy to navigate. I moved here in 1997. Can't beat it as an area to live/vacation.

The Blue Wahoo's stadium on Pensocola Bay would be an great venue for the SEC Baseball Tournament!

I drove across the bay bridge (I-10) every day to work in Milton. You could see most of the tail and fuselage (depending on tide) for weeks it seemed. I was on call and had to go to the hospital and the smell of Jet A hit you the moment you walked in.

Hoover is centrally located in a nice area of metro Birmingham and gets way more flack than it deserves but I actually kind of agree with the OP's Pensacola idea.

Selfishly I like the idea of Pensacola because it's only 45 minutes away from me in Fairhope and as the OP stated there are tons of hotel rooms on the beach within a 30 minute drive in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Perdido Key, and Pensacola Beach.

Only issue with the Wahoos stadium is that it has a much smaller seating capacity than the Hoover Met. You can squeeze 16,000 in Hoover when using the grassy areas whereas it would be very difficult to get more than 10,000 in to the park in Pensacola. I dated a girl last year who lived about 5 minutes from the Wahoos stadium and it's a really cool stadium with great surroundings within walking distance of Palafox and downtown so I don't think regular parking would be a big issue although RV parking would be a bigger challenge. The biggest issue though is the significantly reduced seating capacity if that's a priority for the league. Otherwise, I like the idea of Pensacola hosting it.

I like the idea of playing the SEC tournament in Pensacola but the league would be be giving up huge overall attendance numbers and some big time game atmospheres without huge upgrades to the Wahoos stadium in Pensacola...

The four SEC tournament title games with the highest attendance in Hoover:

1. 16,165

Alabama 9, Arkansas 3 (1999)

2. 14,126

Ole Miss 9, LSU 1 (2018)

3. 13,367

Alabama 6, South Carolina 2 (2002)

4. 13,327

LSU 4, Alabama 3 (2010)

The 2002 SEC tournament drew 162,000+

Yeah. Great park, great setting. Just too small. Our office is walking distance to the park so I would love it.

No doubt. There will have to be improvements. I hope Pensacola does it regardless of the SEC.

As its been stated, the downtown vicinity has gone thru a good deal of revitalization lately. There is currently a huge parcel of land to the NW of the stadium bordered by Main and Government. It is begging for development which would tie the area from downtown to the stadium together. There is also a fairly large city owned beach park adjacent to the stadium that could be utilized as well.

There is also a little used ferry service from downtown to Pensacola Beach that could be expanded to make that area more of a destination for the beach crowd.

Shithole? Based on what? Hoover There's nothing remotely exciting or special about Hoover but it's a very nice area as far as typical suburbs go.

The Met is old but far from a dump. It's actually a really good setup logistically for an event like the SEC tournament. In fact, there's no compelling reason to move it from Hoover unless you move it to a unique destination area like the beach which Pensacola more or less is when you consider that Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Perdido Key, and Pensacola Beach are all within 30 minutes of the stadium in Pensacola. If they could someone expand the Wahoos stadium to at least 10,000 capacity then it would be worth moving it to Pensacola for two or three years to see how it does there.

If they moved it to any of the beach towns on Memorial Day weekend it would be a disaster. Beach towns are very crowded for this weekend already and none of them have stadiums anywhere near the size of Hoover.

Beautiful stadium but the seating capacity pretty much eliminates it off the bat.
