Nebraska needs some serious soul searching.

They need a recruiting base. Leaving the Texas conference was stupid. They can't get players worth a shite in the B1G.

Nebraska's glory days were a quarter century ago. Today's recruits don't know anything about Devaney and Osborne.

When they went to the big ten they sealed their fate. Playing in a region without a lot of HS talent.

If they got rid of Frost, who would they hire? How many coaches have they been through since Dr Tom stepped down?
Frost is at least the fifth.

I want Nebraska to be good again, for no reason other than nostalgia. They've lost so many close games under Frost. It's like they perenially can't get over the hump.

Nebraska's losses by 7 points or less compared to their total losses under Scott Frost
2018 - 5/8
2019 - 4/7
2020 - 2/5
2021 - 6/7 (Nebraska's last six losses have been by a TD or less and include losses to four top ten teams)

You know who's Nebraska nowadays? Wisconsin. Barry Alvarez took Osborne's blueprint and brought it to Wisky. Wisconsin knows what it is as a program while NU hasn't for a long time. The key is to have an offense built around having a big oline.

Nebraska high school football changed a lot since the 90s as well, that'll need reform as well.

The fact is Nebraska killed their recruiting grounds they had spent years developing when they left the Big 12. They no longer have the Texas pipeline. Now they have to compete in the Big 10 footprint against well established schools that are having more success than them. A great coach and recruiter can change that but it will be an uphill battle.

Nebraska has recruited relatively well under Frost. Per rivals:
2021 - #18 overall
2020 - #17 overall
2019 - #15 overall
2018 - #21 overall

They've finished ahead of every team in their division in each of the class four recruiting cycles.

Frost is a decent recruiter but Nebraska doesn't have the draw they once had. He still has had a terrible record considering only OSU, Michigan and Penn State out recruit them usually in the Big 10.

They need to absorb the financial hit and go back to the Big 12.

Sounds ludicrous to give up that much money, but it’s done nothing for them. Women’s soccer facility -yay! Fans don’t care how rich your program is if you aren’t winning.

With their fan support, if they can just win and be successful, money will not be an issue.

They had a huge walk on program as well, particularly beneficial to their O Line. Always a Sr. heavy line.

Nebraska's record sucks this year, but they are playing tough in all their games.

I don't think they are as far off as their record suggests. I would give him another year if I were Nebraska.

There is no longer a Big12. The only 2 "good" teams moved to the SEC, if the remaining teams stay, it'll be another G5 conference.

There is no B12 for them to go back to even if they wanted. No way they can walk away from that B1G money anyway, money still drives the bus and this is a business.

There are some paths out there for Nebraska. They are fortunate to be in the B1G West so they don't have to get by Ohio State/Michigan/Penn State every year and instead their big dog is Wisconsin. They can get to Wisconsin's level with some smart moves. Build up the Lines. Hit the Portal and JUCO's. Grab some recruits that are overlooked.

Nebraska has something to sell. It's a football obsessed school with a nice campus, good education, and friendly people that has tradition. They may never again be what they were but they can sure as hell be relevant again.

Frost is at least the fifth.

Pelini and Solich are the only coaches they've kept for more than 4 years since Osborne retired, and they fired Pelini after he'd gone 67-27 (39-17) with a season no worse than 9-4. They fired Solich after he went 58-19 (33-15). Their problem was the had no self-awareness. They never should have fired Solich and never should have fired Pelini.
