Hurts regressed a lot, i'm sure we've discussed this before but i think the squrae peg / round hole relationship with him and Daboll killed his confidence and it seems pretty clear (to me at least) that he wasn't making the same throws at the end of last year that he could the year before. Plus his running ability was wasted with Daboll not knowing how to get him in space well - just my opinion.

You see what happens when you let Butch Jones on your campus.

Jalen isn't a great passer to begin with. He's never been a guy who could pick you apart nor has he shown that he's capable of it. To be fair though, I think it was drilled into him during his freshman year to not make a mistake considering the defense we had. I think he regressed due to that & Kiffin checking out mid-November. Defensive Coordinators, starting with Aranda, realized he was limited. The NOTs that the 2016 team had covered up a lot of the issues and took a lot of pressure off Hurts & the offense.

I think Daboll deserves criticism but he was also coaching with his arm tied behind his back. It was clear that we had a ceiling of around 20-24 points with Hurts whenever we played a legitimate defense.

Using a small sample size lets look a Tua performance. He threw 24 passes and completed 14. Seven were for less than 10 yards (safe passes), 3 were for 10-15 yards, and 1 for 41 yards (game winner). In regulation he was 13 for 23 for 123 yards, and thru 3 passes that were or should have been INTs, and multiple sacks. That is how you can have AA stats with a dogshit OL. Tua did it despite the OL troubles. Any other questions ?

So you're saying that Tua had All-American stats PLUS he did it with a crappy offensive line...I see that you didn't mention the three TD passes he threw in a little over a half of play. Also, how do you say a pass should have been intercepted?...subjective comments don't work in sports...and how many is "multiple sacks"? Georgia was credited with THREE SACKS for the entire game!

I don't blame the kid. He won one NC. If the D had not collapsed, he would have won two NC's. He was one of the best passers at the Manning Academy last year.............as many bama fans pointed out going into last season.

I never said he had AA stats, but he only played a half. I’m telling you stats are misleading and both QBs were running for their lives. I know Tua took two sacks and both had to run to get away from more. How many hurries were recorded?

Against a team who probably had not prepared for him. He looks like a solid QB, but give schools some tape on him and things may change.

So Hurts having 51 yards more a game rushing than Etling is the difference between running like a deer/not being able to run

but

Etling having 41 more yards a game passing simply means they are the same?

I know it's hard for 7SU fans to understand what "eye test" means but yeah, Hurts is way better than Etling. Even without so called "Bama Magic". It's obvious to everyone else but it's ok if you don't get it.

Alabama will have both Tua and Hurts this season. Do y'all actually think that Saban and staff won't be able to feed both guys enough reps each game to keep things "interesting"?....gonna be a fun year watching Alabama's offense glide through the schedule.
The big question should really be...now do you defensively game plan for BOTH QBs. Stop one and the other'll blister you.

Yeah, because saban is known for running a two QB system.

So you think the 10 more total yards Hurts got a game, while being on a far better team, would have translated to him being better at lsu?

You have to also consider that Bama was beating nearly everyone down and didn't need more passing yards.

Ehhh, likely not. I mean, I am not sure he would have beat out Etling

I'm 35 with a beer belly, and I think I'd have a chance to start over Etling.

When is the last time he had 2 QBs like he has now? If you don't think that Saban's gonna keep this "competition" open as long as he can, you're daffy. I don't see anybody on the schedule for most of the season who'll give him any concern about who, or how many QBs he uses. Y'all need to find something else to "wish" for because this ain't gonna be a problem this year.

Phillip Sims (the #1 rated QB that had bama fans hard) and AJ McCarron.

Tide coach Nick Saban has said he sees no problem with sophomore A.J. McCarron and redshirt freshman Phillip Sims sharing playing time until someone emerges.

Hurts will leave if he doesn't win the starting job.........and nobody with an ounce of intelligence would blame him.

The difference between Tua and Sims is that Sims never came around and Tua has already shown his capability. I expect Saban to handle the Tua/Hurts thing the way he handled Sims/A.J., but this "competition" will last well into the season.
If/when Hurts clearly becomes the 2nd string QB, I certainly wouldn't blame him if he went somewhere else, and I believe the Bama Nation would wish him much success.

It really isnt. Etling was invited to the combine and will possibly get drafted. Do you feel the same for Hurts?
