I think the most likely answer is that they were hoping the NCAA would get a more favorable ruling somewhere along the way.
I'm not saying you're wrong but I hope you are, because if you're not, that shows shows incompetence and/or poor leadership...or they don't actually care as long as they keep getting rich.

I get your point, but why now?

Probably, which would potentially explain the extreme action on the SEC’s part.
and for the record, you cant just claim LOIC because you do not like how a school is acting. there are specific parameters that must be met, none of which are remotely close to being met currently
cant say.....I do not like the political environment in that state right now and they arent being quite or posting like I like on X.....so must mean LOIC
one of the big points they leaked to prove LOIC was silence by the president of the university.....he wasnt silent. todays FOIA proves that.
he talked to Sankey early last week, again friday and again tuesday. Just because he didnt make a comment to the media doesnt mean he was silent. Same with out AD.
presidents dont normally comment on these things
and last point.....one of the biggest reasons the NCAA lost from the very start of all this mess years ago....was not being consistent with rulings and punishment
well SEC has a huge problem with that right now, huge.
1) if you fine Kiff you actually open yourself up for 1st admin suit based off the conferences on filings in fed court this week
2) if you fine or suspend kiff for the half time comments, you open yourself up for lawsuites from failing to give the same punishment to Heupel and UK coach. Rulings must be consistent....if you break rules(which both did) then the punishment must be consistent across the board.

The SEC should've come out during the offseason (after the Bediako mess) and stated that they are now being tasked with eligibility enforcement within the conference due to the vacuum left by the NCAA, and will be penalizing anyone who violates 14.01.1, by playing an NCAA ineligible player, appropriately going forward.
It's a fair rule then, and no one is singled out. It puts an end to all nonsense, not just NFL player nonsense. It was that easy.
Instead, they seem desperate to pin anything on LSU that they can, and are likely hurting any chance they had to become their own governing body because of selective enforcement and authoritarianism. They're making the same mistakes the NCAA made. Going all in and making an example of someone never works long-term.
It was so easy, just be fair.

yup, and as a voluntary association, they have a much easier road to federal protection of their bylaws than the NCAA does. But they have chosen to sit on their hands and now want to reverse course on a whim

yup....selective enforcement of rules and unclear precise language is what got us here and the SEC is cruising down that same path

I agree with this, but someone was always going to feel singled out given how constant the TRO hearings are these days.

Sure, but this year was the perfect time to enact equal enforcement due to all of the players playing under injunctions across the league.
But they're going all in on LSU.

And absolutely no one else is even getting mentioned. It’s so clearly illogical it’s laughable

Imagine not knowing that every Louisiana Governor has, for all practical purposes, run LSU
I have a feeling this has more to do with LSU holding a meeting for its top boosters at the Governor’s mansion.
JMO, but it looks like the SEC believes LSU is preparing to make a move away from the conference.

There is some political influence going on but now how you think.

And it may have been the spark that signaled that LSU with the backing of Gov Landry is making moves that the 15 schools + the SEC Administration feels are opposite to the "SEC's mission, core values and principals" and that they're rejecting the conferences governance. IDK, but things are certainly a little clearer than they were earlier this week.

You mean Gov Jeff Landry, who took the lead on getting Brian Kelly fired. And then took the lead in hand-picking Kiffin as his replacement? That Gov Landry?
Seriously, how do you idiots function in everyday life?
Guess who gets to appoint the LSU Board Of Supervisors when their terms are complete?
Answer: the Governor
Guess who gets to name the AD and Coaches?!
Answer: The BOS

Sounds like we have a TON of institutional control.
They just don't like the people controlling it.
Broke no rules. Just don't like Landry, Rousse, Kiffin, and Wade.
That's a precedent other SEC teams want to set?

Something else I learned today.
Since 1970, LSU is dead last of the charter SEC members plus Ark and SC in percentage of Executive Board representation.
